I've been reading around and looking at sample photos taken with the Sigma 15mm full frame fisheye... I already own a Tokina 12-24 for my D50 and I was wondering if anyone can highlight the benefits of having the fisheye as well... I'm considering buying it but having a hell of a time justifying the money.

I know nikon 10.5 is lots of fun.

I don't know that there are any benefits of the 15 mm fisheye. It really depends on what you’re planning on shooting with that lens. Its definitely not a walk around lens.

When I was living in LA I used my Sigma 15mm almost exclusively for skateboard photography. The wide lens and the barrel distortion complemented the subject and the bowls in the background.

The link below are some samples photos taken with my Sigma 15mm fisheye.

Cheers for the responses guys. I've done a little more research (as one does before spending the money...) and decided more or less on the Nikon 10.5mm. It's not THAT much more expensive and distortion and sharpness seem to be second to none.

Any more thoughts before I spend the cash?
Basically what I'm after is a lens that'll take my photography in a new direction.

I think you'll be very happy with the Nikon 10.5mm fish. The 15mm just isn't that "fishy" on an APS-C cam (I've used the Canon 15mm fisheye on a 10D). The 10.5 will really give you a nice full-frame fisheye image and I understand the image quality is quite high.

i use it and i love it BUT i am hoping to trade it in for a 10.5mm for the reasons kirbic stated. you can get great wide shots with the 15mm on our cams, but i want some soopah fisheye action.

if you're looking to buy a used one, hit me up. i'm considering selling mine to fund a fishier lens. :)

here are some samples for you:

on nikon

on canon

I'm glad that I have one but I almost never use it. They are kind of expensive for the limited use you get out of it but it looks like the Nikon is better all around....wider, sharper and fishier. It's an amazing lens.
