i love all the majors: lotr, star wars, back to the future (even the third one), indiana jones and THE GODFATHER (though the third one was sub par, I gave a standing ovation when Sohpia Copolla bit the dust)

chasing amy awful? i thought it was pretty interesting.. liked it...

The Evil Dead trilogy represents three of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Bruce Campbell is my hero. Anyone who hasn't seen it needs to. You will never look at cabins in the woods in the same way, or medieval castles...

Those movies entered the cultural language of my circle of friends and has endured very well. Cult classics for sure. And before anyone who hasn't seen it dismisses it, know that it was directed by Sam Rami (he directed the first Spiderman movie. Useless fact: Sam Rami includes his car in at least one seen in every movie he directs as sort of a running joke.) It's funny to see such a polished movie like Spiderman as compared to his earlier, and in my opinion, brilliant horromedy work.

My two cents.

Absolutely the best ever is The godfather.
LOTR doesn't ever arrives to smell the dust of any of the scenes of the Coppola's trilogy (*runs to hide*).
It's completely perfect, the actors are the best of the best (brando, de niro, pacino), the screenplay is great... Nothing to do with the rest. Just my opinion...

Didn't they make 3 Buckeroo Banzai movies ... 2 for sure. Arguably the best cult classic trilogy.

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly has always been my favourite western. When I saw it mentioned here it reminded me of some other fun spaghetti westerns I enjoyed as a kid but I couldn't remember the details. So a quick google on the subject revealed the ones I was looking for were the "They Call Me Trinity" films.

However, the point of this post is while surfing I found this great link for spaghetti westerns which I really enjoyed and thought I would pass on.

There was only ever one Banzai movie. A sequel was planned, but according to sources on Google, no script was ever written, and it never even came close to being made.

ref Harry Potter, I am not in to movies like that either. Exception of LOTR but that is only because My wife is from New Zealand and while we were down there for a visit the hype was just too much to escape. So I watched the first movie on DVD, Then went and seen the second at the Embassy Theater which is where they held all 3 world premier showings of the LOTR Trilogy. From there I was hooked. Now I am waiting for the Hobbit to be made into a movie.

How about Dirty Harry? I think there were more than three but hey. Did he make six of those movies or only five? with all the excitement, I couldn't keep track.

X-Men
Back to the Future
Die Hard

I fell asleep for LOTR too...

I found LOTR to be a lot of "sound and fury signifying...nothing"

I couldn't really connect with it.

Nice to look at. Exciting in places. Clearly a work of passion but strangely uninvolving.

perhaps because you're watching a fan giving homage to a book instead of an artist interpreting a book.

The thing is about LOTR, it is unlike any book or film ever made. It truly investigates and involves in such a range of emotion from simplicity, fear, despair, hope, courage, redemption, triumph, peace, authority. I could go on infinitely. A true masterpiece. True. There is not a better book in the world. Could be argued against in film (I would never), but as much as I love say the Godfather, the Corleone family and its trevails across America and back into Sicily, do not even begin to touch the range of LOTR. There certainly are major moments (and Godfather 1 & 2 are together in my top 5 of all time), but personally that tale is one of simply despair. The Godfather starts at a crescendo in the opening scene, and basically everything is downhill from there....

There are many great novels that explore a great range of emotion. What was groundbreaking about LOTR was the lengths that Tolkien went to create his world. He was a philologist and created languages and cultures in remarkable detail. You see other attempts at such feats these days, but I do believe that Tolkien pioneered it.

Ohhh, thanks for the link,
I vouch for this trilogy (since Star Wars doesn't seem to count for some poeple:
# Qatsi

1. Koyaanisqatsi (1983)
2. Powaqqatsi (1988)

Hmm, top three in no particular order (Excluding LOTR):

1) Back to the Future
2) Terminator
3) X-Men

All very cool in albeit very different ways...
