Hi all,

I was hoping some of you would have some experience with model releases. I just submitted my first set of photos to ShutterStock and iStock that needed a model release. ShutterStock came back to me and said that I needed to add a section for a witness and the model's address. iStock said my model release (the same one I used with ShutterStock) was not adequate but did not give reasons why and just told me to use their form. My challenge is that I do not want to have a different form for each site. Is it possible to have a single form that will work with most of the common micros? My original form was modeled after one from Alamy and Corbis. Since then, I have merged in elements from the ShutterStock one. I feel so lost on this and was hoping those of you that go through this process will be able to give me some advice. Can I use just one form? What at a minimum needs to be on my form for it to be accepted by ShutterStock and iStock?

Currently, my form has the models' name, address, email address, birth date, model signature, date, my name, my signature, details about the shott, the consideration provided, a witness signature, and all of the legal verbage that seems pretty close between model releases.

Thanks.

Thanks pidge. The model release I have is similar to this - very similar. I was more wondering what the popular micros required in a model release. As an update to my post, ShutterStock accepted my generic model release last night. Now, I am just wondering if iStock will.

Does anyone else have any experience with creating a generic model release that ShutterStock, iStock, and others will all accept?

Thanks.

I think you'd probably be able to use this one about anywhere:

I'm also interested, and would think the Getty docs would work, but not sure because they don't have the "witness sig block" that iStock has on their form.

It seems like most sites will accept the iStock releases, so if anyone has converted those from pdf to doc files, I'd be very grateful for a link. (I've tried to convert, but get a "cannot be converted" error.)

I think I can do this for you at work -- email the PDF(s) you want converted to

output@hunzagraphics.com

with "Files for Paul to convert" in the subject line and I'll check it out tonight.

You can print a .pdf file directly from Acrobat. You can save it also this way you dont need a link.

I posted this same thing a couple weeks ago and the general response was to take IStock's form and use it for all the sites but to remove their logos before uploading to the other sites like fotolia and shutterstock. I've taken to using this method and it's been fine.

But it's nice if you can type in as much information as is known before printing. This can also be done by creating form fields on the Acrobat document into which you can type (even from Reader) and print -- I can do this too. Depends how many blanks there are to determine which is easier -- in Word format you can also play around with fonts and formatting.

I have one that was accepted by dreamstime, shutterstock, istock and whoever else I submitted to (canstock- I don't remember who else!) :0)

If anyone wants to PM me their e-mail address I'll gladly forward it to you. You'll have to change the header & footer & my name in the contract. This one was good for both minors and adults.

Thanks for all the responses! I should have mentioned that I'm trying to convert from PDF to .doc using "Save As ... [doc file]" with Adobe Acrobat Pro 7.0 and have never encountered the error I'm getting with the iStockPhoto model release.

GeneralE - I emailed a copy to you and appreciate your offer to give it a try.

I'll also interested in seeing what you are using, Wonder, so I'll PM you.

I know that I'm definitely interested in removing all logos and customizing a final form with my own stuff.

Thanks again for the help!

Thanks all. This has been very helpful. I have taken what you have provided and created my model release. My intenet is that it will work for multiple stock sites and for adults or minors. Hopefully all will go well.

Thanks again.

Did you get it? I sent it from work earlier this afternoon.

Hi,

I'm a bit of a newbi here, but have found this a very helpful discussion. Thanks for all the advice and I hope those who made the generous offers above don't mind if I PM them to see if their assistance would extend to an Aussie.

I've offered before on other threads & sent it to many people- feel free to PM me with your e-mail and I'll send a copy of my model release. It has worked on every micro and macro site I've submitted it to and is good for minors and adults. It's in Word format. :0)
