At the end of this week I am travelling to Hong Kong for a weeks holiday. I have just bought a 5D so I am very keen to spend the whole week testing it out. I have 2 L series lenses, 70-200 and 24-70 along with a number of non L series lenses. I am concerned about drawing attention to myself with the big white lens, will my other non L series lenses disappoint me?

Likely :-) Try shooting around home first. I shoot wiht the big whites a lot, and the worst problem seems to be everyone expects that I can fix/help them with every Camera ever created. :-)

I'd bring the 24-70 and the 70-200

I really don't think you'll be the only person in Hong Kong with big white lenses ;)

Hong Kong has some excellent photographers and some of them have an incredible amount of kit.

Bring your 24-70mm 2.8L, 24mm on fullframe gives you a nice and wide perspective! :)

And buy some CF down there, they're cheeeeap :)

Just be careful of pick pockets and don't keep everything in a backpack on your back, keep it on your side or front where you can keep tabs on it. Don't let any strangers/new friends into where you're staying. Other than that just take the 2 L's.

Take the two Ls, you'll be fine. As mentioned above, just keep them on the front of your body where you can keep an eye on them. Enjoy Hong Kong, it's a beautiful place for photography (and a cheap place to upgrade your kit).

Well, if I was doing a lot of walking, and wanted to blend in a little better, I would bring the 28-135 IS. It is small and light weight, and it isn't showy. With the 5D, you can shoot with high ISO, no problem, so during the day you should get great shots. If you need a shot with some bokeh, bring your light weight 50 1.4 also. Nothing against your faster lenses, I just wouldn't want to carry them all day.

Have fun!!!

Bring along the 28-135 IS, Last year I traveled to Spain with some of my classmates and I didn't yet have my 20D so I was using my Elan 7NE so the full 28 was enough for all around photography, so if you like to change lenses frequently leave it, but if you're going to be shooting a lot on the move, not being able to stop for a while, you won't want to take the 28-135 off your 5D.

The L's and the 50/1.4. Weather is not so great these days here. Today I spoted some sun but just for a little.
Don't worry too much about pickpocketing, some preautions will do it.
Enjoy it. It's a great place.
As for drawing attention don't worry. There are plenty of white lens you can see all over.

Yeah Dito on the pick pockets. Lots of them in Hong Kong. Also Dito on the you wont be the only one with a big white lens. What might make you stand out more is if you are taller than 5 feet 5 and white.

Bring the big white lenses and pack them in an ugly-ass bag.
