OOPPPSSS...i forgot to do me...Anyway, my name is Alex Shimm, and i am the team captin who assembled all of you guys together to make the ultra awsome team that we are. I have been into photography for about 2 years. I got into it from having to get photos at the zoo (where i work) for presentations. I got my Rebel about 4 months ago. I found this site shortly after that, and I do absolutly nothing all day exceot hit the refresh button on this page all day.

Alex has recruited me. I hope to contribute to the team by submitting photos of road-kill, and various items submerged in a fish tank. Maybe even some road-kill submerged in a fish tank.

In honour of our fearless captain's surname, I submit that we call this team "SHIMMWITS".
:-)

He got me too, Mr. Slip.

What if we submit road-kill submerged in a fishtank full of jello? There is a free study going on right now...

I'm in too! It sounds like we are going to have some dangerous entries in this team.

I'm new to submitting photos here and so far I've learnt a lot to improve so by the time WPL starts I hope to be in the 6's or better!

Aw shucks, ok. I live in New Zealand where it's currently very cold and wet. I got my 350D about 8 months ago and decided this site was a good way to improve on both my photography and photoshop in a manner that gave me feedback. I don't think I have a favourite stlye/topic of photography but it's a bit soon to tell yet.

I find the update button in scoring a bad idea - I'm always flicking to my home page and clicking it so see the last score on my photo - sooo adictive!

So yeah...just to let you know, our team is going to preatty much dominate. I carfully picked each member of the team, (no one has below a 5 average some have a 6) and i also made sure that we had about half of the people be people that specialize in studio shots, and half that specialize in real world shots. And a few that do both. So this way, we will have good scores no matter what the challange is, because they deffently do lean one way or another. WE WILL DOMINATE...and since no one is suggesting a name, and i like my name, and the only person who has complained about it is mad_brewer, i think we are going to keep it. So we need a logo and a slogan...throw out some slogan suggestions and if someone is good at art, if they could work on the logo...i was thinking like an SLR with a line of bullets coming out. As i explained to mad_brewer, it is a play on words. LIke Canons "sureshot", becuase trigger happy is when you shoot a lot...which we do...just not bullets, pictures...and with a button not a trigger...okay so its weird but i dont see any of you coming up with anything better...or if someone knows flash, or logo could be an SLR with a flash going off really fast...

Yeah, I like the name hence no other suggestions. For the logo, something with cross-hairs in it?
08/04/2006 10:35:36 PM · #13
whats a cross-hair

The cross you see when you look down a rifle scope. It's the bit that you line up on the target before you pull the trigger.

OK, I didn't really complain about the suggested name, I just thought it referred to guns and then realized after I PM'd that it referred to shootin' pictures.

So who's officially in besides myself, Nuzzer, and jusdino4it?

I'm in!
Hi, My name is Thomas (everyone says "hi Thomas!"), and I've been a DPC addict for 3 years, 1 month, 7 days, 22 hours, 42 minutes, 7 seconds. I just got a Canon 30d in June, and have taken about 8000 pictures since then (which averages to 150 photos a day, yikes). I am a Trigger Happy photographer. I shoot lots of beach images, except when I'm going to college up in Spokane. I don't like pickles, and I still play legos.

Hello all, I'm in!

My name is Sherwin James and live in NJ, USA. Been photographing as a hobby for little over two years. I like shots with simple themes or those that tell a story. Also like shots that are out of the ordinary.

I kind of like the name Trigger Happy, it should stick.

I am looking forward to our team efforts.

Thomas, you've got some awesome talent. Looking forward to learning some things from you.

Ken,

Great eye. Your shots are super sharp and vivid.

Strike,

I'm glad I'm on your team. Fabulous work with high ratings.

Hi Sherwin and Thomas - glad to have you in the team.

I'm starting to feel under pressure in this team now - I've got to hold my end up with 4 ribbon winners - yikes!

No, really it's good - one of the reasons this site took my fancy was the competitive aspect.

Can I make a suggestion for us to consider before WPL3 starts: after each challenge how about we make comments on the entries that our team-mates have made. Comments are the best way to learn how to improve and I tend to suffer from a lack of comments during challenges (in general, my shots tend to be neither "great" nor "rubbish" so miss out on the majority of comments). What do you all think?

I think this is a great idea. We can probably comment on previous entries or shots in our portfolios. Feedback is the key here. I'd also be willing to share any of my PP techniques. I'm still a beginner, but I'm getting better at it.

Strikeslip - sorry I missed you earlier. DOH!

I'll make some comments over the next week or so on prior challenge and portfolio images. I'd also be very keen to learn PP techniques as I am a complete novice in this area - just check out my entry in the "10" challenge to see how I can muck that up! :)
