I can't seem to log on to BHPhotovideo.com - FireFox or IE. Just me?

I got the following message when I checked the B&H website:

"Sorry, due to a power outage in our New York City location, our store, web site and phones are currently not available.
All orders will be shipped out on Monday (August 7, 2006), or as soon as power is restored.
Please check back with us later."

I guess that explains why you couldn't log in.

Used to use them but they seem to have slipped some in service (at least for me) recently...B&H is #1 choice.

Guess it's hard to shop when #1 choice isn't available thou - eh? ;^)

Seems strange that they can have the web site up enough to have the message that the web site is not up.

Do they really host the site themselves? You'd think a big time e-business site would be hosted at an ISP that had back up power.

Maybe they do, but they can't get the orders since the store is wothout power.

Still, seems odd to me.

How long have some of New York been without power?

I would image after so long they shut down all non essential power.

... like web hosting : )

Note: even if the site comes back up today, B&H will not accept orders between Friday and Saturday evenings.

They might be closed now for Tisha B'Av, and tonight for Shabbat (Sabbath), but I don't see any other conflicts this weekend after sundown on Saturday (New York time).

Nope. I heard it on the traffic report coming home- it was a manhole explosion that knocked out power around their store. They'll be open as usual tomorrow.

Just a quick follow-up on B&H. I had placed an order last week for a Lightsphere just before their site went down. I ask for and paid for three-day Fedex. They were back up Monday 8-7 and shipped my order via overnight Fedex at no additional charge. Received it today (8-8) before noon.

What really impressed me was they just did it without pointing it out or patting themselves on the back. I'm sure that there are other service-oriented companies around but for now, if B&H has it in stock, they have my order. No need to shop around.

I had quite the opposite experience, I paid for 2 Day shipping and they didn't process the order in time. I called them to cancel the order before it shipped and they basically told me I was sh!t out of luck because they were closing in 30 minutes and didn't have time to cancel my order. I got it 2 weeks later :(
