Thanks to everyone for the high votes, you're all swell :)

Being as it was hotter that *&(( out when I took this, I didn't want to put too much effort in - I was near death from the heat! But my priorities were straight and I DPC'ed first, heat stroke second.

Anyway, this shot is actually a lighting test shot. I was going to do this with tomatoes, they were cold so would instantly sweat when taken out of the fridge (which is good - no need for an sjcarter spritzer!) but I didn't want them sweating on the posterboard while I was testing the lighting; I feared they would soak and I'd get messy water stains ruining the paper.

Sooooo, I used this set o' peppers as a body double during lighting tests. Being body doubles they were not paid full scale. Anyway, I saw this result (which is the second test shot), noticed how freaking hot I was, and decided to stop right here :)

Lighting: a small flashlight (torch to some of you) and a little painting with light action! Wait until it's dark out (or control the ambient light somehow - something I wasn't going to do it was so freaking hot), then choose an aperture to get good dof (f/10 - a guess), choose a time (2.5s, yes I guessed again) and swipe up and down with the light a couple of times. Easy peasy, Bob's your uncle. :)

PP was levels, clone some bright spots out, burn parts of the leaf to try and make it look less fake, a tad curve action, save for web.

Yes, the peppers are not quite real.

Feel free to post your Color on Color lighting techniques or chile recipes.

Peace, my friends :)

And let's hope Steve comes back soon so we can kick his butt for making us worry.

I like the spotlight, JP. Grats on a great finish! Only wish you'd used real peppers :P

Edit to mention photographing tomatoes is like shooting glass, you'd have hated the reflections. I think peppers works better :)

Thanks cindi :)

I had real peppers but these, except for the leaf, looked more real :(

So, I'm guessin it was hot :-)

Thanks for sharing...I was wondering about the lighting when I saw the pic.

You're welcome, Maya :)

It was a mildly balmy somewhat humid day, you know: 100F and 99% humidity. :(

What I hope to show is that you don't need cool lights and big set up to get something semi-decent. All I wanted for this shot was to mute most of the shadowing on the peppers and have the subject slightly darker than the immediate bg.

Everyone should explore painting the light on the subject, it sure make set up that much easier :)

And I will heed the words of cindi and fear the tomato.
