Few months before i brought my canon rebel xt camera with default 18-55 mm lens,
now i am thinking of buying one more lens at an affordable price (max 200$). I need your help and advice on this.
I got two choices.

1. PRIME LENS
Canon Normal EF 50mm f/1.8 II Autofocus Lens (75$)
OR
2. TELE PHOTO ( best of below or anything else at best deal for this price)
Canon Zoom Telephoto EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III (170$)
Sigma Zoom Telephoto 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DL Macro Super II Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS (130$)
Tamron Zoom Telephoto AF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 LD Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS (140$)

I kinda liked to take pictures with both PRIME and TELEPHOTO.... but my preference to telephoto is slightly higher than the other.
I already have 58mm UV fileter and polarizer.

Which site is a best place to buy them ?
Any other good lens?
I also want to make sure that the above lens fits my Canon 350D camera !

THANKS A LOT GUYS

If you do any shooting indoors get the prime. It is a great lens and very sharp.

Your best bet would be a prime for sharpness plus you can use it inside too. At $75 you can't beat the 50mm f/1.8 and then you can save up for a better zoom. I have been disappointed in the sharpness of images taken with low-cost zoom lenses.

B&H photo is a good place to buy or Amazon.com (for free shipping but sometimes their prices are higher but not always.) I have bought many things from B&H and have always been happy. B&H also has a promotion that you have 90 days to pay off your purchase over $100 (with no interest). If you bought it now, you would not have to pay until December 1st.

Sigma makes two lenses in the 70-300 4-5.6 - the one you linked to for $130 and an APO verison for $170 or so. GET THE APO VERSION. It is much better than the non-APO model.

The canon 70-300 lenses are all abit soft from 200mm to 300mm, the sigma is not.

within the last few months I purchased a Rebel XT w/ the kit lens ... then promptly got the 50mm f/1.8 and absolutely love it ... takes nice sharp photos ... great for indoor work ...

Ohhh, i just ordered the sigma apo 70-300. I cant wait. It should be in tomorrw :D I cant wait, cause it looks like a beautiful lens for the price. From the research I did, dont get the non APO!

The prime is an excellent choice and very reasonably priced. Personally, I'm saving up for the Canon 70-200 f2.8L IS for my BIG telephoto lens. My kit/walk around lens has been replaced by the Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di which is an excellent lens that can be had for a reasonable price also. I almost never take this lens off of my camera now.

I have been reading all your responses.
I am sure to buy canon50mm 1.8. Apart from that i am very much looknig for tele. I have two questions

1. What is APO, wat differnece it makes ?
APO version of sigma is close to 200$, instead i can easily get canon 70-300 at 170$.. hows the quality of this canon lens ? If canon is good, i can go for canon tele itself.. wat u say..

2. Many people are askin me to save bucks for good quality tele instead of lower end tele. So what are the next level of good tele lens available for rebel XT. This time I can go close to 400$

Thanks for your words

APO means "apochromatic", or corrected for color at three wavelengths. What that really means is that there will be less visible color fringing (chromatic aberration).

The next level is unfortunately a little bigger step financially, closer to $600. That's the Canon 70-200 f/4. Once you've seen results from that one, you will know what a really good zoom is capable of.

I just bought the Tamron 24-135 new from thecamerabox.com for $295 USD...came with the lens hood, front and rear caps, and a leather-like zippered pouch. The lens is well-built, extremely sharp, and very bright. I returned my Sigma 17-70 F2.8 for it and not regretted it. Takes nice, sharp images...
