This is a photographer that knows Steve and has kindly offered up her web page for a missing flyer before site visitors can see her gallery images. I'm in touch with her regularly as well. BTW - she has not heard from Steve recently.

Some news coming in this morning, maybe...

First off, this is totally unconfirmed, so it is unknown for sure if this was even Steve's car. I'm hesitant to even post it because I don't want anyone to get their hopes up, but it may show up in a news article on line so I wanted to post it here where I can explain it.

What we know: On Sunday 8/6 someone claims to have been driving behind a car that matched Steve's car. They had read the story in the paper earlier and were pretty sure the last three digits of the lic plate matched Steve's. They passed the info on to local police who contacted Mesa Police. The sighting was on Hwy 260 between Payson and Show Low heading to Show Low.

We do not know if this was Steve's car, we do not know who was driving the car and we do not know where it was going or where it went. However, IF (note the big if) it was Steve, my best guess is that he's heading to the White Mountains as it's beautiful there this time of year.

Regardless, this morning I have contacted the White Mountain Independent
(local paper) and they will be doing a story. I've also sent all the information on to the Show Low Police and Chamber of Commerce and asked that they distribute the flyer. We have friends in that area that are on the look out and I have a friend on the local search and rescue team up there that will spread the word.

made me cry to think that there is even some remote possibility of something positive....its been too long.

where is show low?

Thanks Tina, I'm still just searching around for anything new that might come up.

I noticed that on the front page of the SomeoneIsMissing page (just below the yellow alert) they wrote:

"You can make your own web pages or flyers free of charge, within minutes by visiting SomeoneIsMissing.net - Click Here!
Please take a minute to view this page made, someone did a very nice job, only we have no idea how they did it. It's a page made about Steve Davidson missing from Mesa, Arizona. - Click Here"

Kinda nice to have the front page exposure.

Regarding getting bank account information...

All banks have privacy policies, however, there may be some limited information that they could share with an immediate family member without divulging the account holders financial data. Its worth a try if the police aren't accessing the info. I would go to the bank, explain the situation, present personal identification and request:

1. When was the last time Steve made a transaction on any of his accounts?

2. If any the recent transactions were ATM or Point of Sale, what town(s) were they made from and on what days?

This is really the only information that would be useful for those searching and it contains no specific financial data. There is no need to have direct access to the statements or accounts. One other possible question would be to somehow verify that Steve made the transactions himself, by signature, or whatever; however, I suspect that information would require extra digging on the part of the bank or bank teller.

A relative might be able to acquire Steve's credit record from one of the reporting agencies online. It probably would only be useful for showing whether he (or someone using his name) has recently acquired new loans, cards, etc. or if he hasn't been making payments.

I hope he shows up soon with lots of nice photos and a long story with a happy ending.

Show Low is North and a bit East of Phoenix. About a 2 hour drive. I had also talked to Brenda (DPC= Bell) at the begining of all this and she mentioned that when Steve & her talked he said something about going up to the white mountains and seeing the Mogillon Rim as well. This was quite a long time ago tho. I told Brenda to be on the look out when this all started and I did e-mail her that he might be up there now. I know the area well and will be going up the weekend of the 18th. I'm just hoping he'll already be back by then but that's the earliest I can go.

Daryl, thanks for the update. I hope that the recent car sighting was accurate and that Steve is indeed simply on an extended time-out trip and will be found safe and sound soon.

If I think of anything to help I'll be sure to post it but I really want to remind folks again of ClubJuggle's wonderful suggestion not to second-guess or criticise the actions of friends and family. They are in the best position to decide which actions are appropriate/ in Steve's best interest and which are simply not feasible or appropriate.

Also, *anyone* can make whatever changes or updates they want to that webpage.

It's really easy to edit, just click on the 'edit' tab at the top.

Don't be shy - If you make a mistake don't worry, there's a history of pages stored so it's easy to go back to a previous version.

ATM is generally easy to distinguish from POS - an ATM will come across as a street address, and a POS will come across with the name of the store. Usually. Some larger stores like groceries will also come across as addresses.

A teller won't have access to this information. In my bank, the card system can only be accessed by a supervisor (which for a larger bank that mine might still be low level, but in mine he's also a vice president and the compliance officer and I'm not sure which part of the job it falls under), but at that point we can get exactly when it happened, a contact number for the merchant, and we know what sort of transaction it was - like for online purchases if you went through an online verification process. We can also see pending transactions that haven't yet been posted to the account, like the holds that hotels will put on your card for a room without charging it. It's not the easiest thing in the world to muck through, so it may require a bit of persistence on your part to get the bank to do it, but they can, and they can get quite a lot of information.

But again, a reputable bank will not release any of this to anyone but the account holder, so you probably still need a judge's order of some kind to get it. They should not, legally, be any more lenient just because you're a relative. Moreover, a bank will not be overhelpful when they do get that court order. You will get exactly and only what you asked for, so make sure the language is broad enough to cover everything. This is why you should look into getting POA instead of a subpoena.

All we know is someone who had read the news article on Steve saw a vehicle matching the description of his, and they think the 2nd half of the plate matched what they read in the paper. Until we actually find Steve, I don't think we will ever be able to call this anything more or less than a "possible" sighting.

It'd be great to know for sure, but I don't think that's possible in this case.

I'm getting confirmation from my hiker friends that the flyer is getting posted all over on national forest land through out the state.

Also, from my SAR friend up in Show Low I'm getting confirmation that the word is out up there. Forest service is well aware of Steve and on the look out. She will be passing the word as much as she can. Luckily we have a few friends up there helping us as it's about a 4 hour drive one way.

Let's hope something turns up soon! Lot's of people are on the look out for him and I'm going to owe a lot of people favors after this is done...

Ah, up on Mogollon, that would make some sense if he's off doing landscapes. Hopefully with the word spreading, we'll get a confirmed sighting or contact. Sooner or later, ya gotta believe he's going to start seeing himself in the news.

I got the Phoenix.Metblogs.com to post about Steve's disappearance in hopes that it reaches yet another audience that might know something.

You can see the post here:

Feel free to add comments to that thread if you can add anything.

Look at a map for a sec - serious.

Steve was in PHX.
Then he went to Gold Canyon.
Next possible sighting is Show Low.

Connect the dots - and where is the NEXT place he'd go shoot?

THE most likely: Gila National Forest - no?

//www2.srs.fs.fed.us/r3/gila/maps/

It's in southwest New Mexico. A sharp right on Rt. 180 from Show Low would get him there by just about today.

Let's say he doesn't go south - he goes east. He's eventually going to go to Zuni Bandera because well if you go east, that's what's there!

//www.100megspopup.com/photo4phood/swarch/banderaindex.html

It's logical - there's an Ice Cave, overlooks, mountains, great photo ops!

I guess what I'm saying is you guys seem have covered everything but you're staying a "step behind" Steve. Now I don't want him ticked off at me when you find him, but contact New Mexico parks - especially those two huge ones. Those are both logical places for him to go next.

Now I've read every post in this thread I think - and even though I don't know Steve, we are very worried about him and hope he's ok. If you can - hit up NM Park authorities ASAP. The two sightings are on a line. There has to be a next sighting. If Show Low is 4 hours away, and that was the last stop, he'd be home. Show Low isn't the last stop - so Gila or Zuni Bandera...next. If someone knows NM better than us, maybe they can nail down other possible spots.

*crossing our fingers*

Hope that idea helps.

Good thinking. I wouldn't totally give up looking around Show Low, though. He's been gone for 3 weeks or so and it doesn't take 3 weeks to go directly from Phoenix to Show Low. He must be staying in an area for awhile before moving on. That is, if it was him seen there.

hate to say it but it would be easier here...out there there are so many possible spots where a photographer would want to go. Hard to guess where he might be next. I do know he loves photographing wildfires and flowers and sunrises and sunsets. He likes working on panoramas also.

I still cant help but think:
1. He needs gas. IF he was seen along a certain road, gas stations along that road are a good bet.
2. Restaurants/diners along that same road. The man's gotta eat.
3. He also needs to sleep. Rest areas/hotel/motels. I would think sleeping in a car for 3 weeks gets mighty uncomfortable. I've done it for 2 nights and can say, it's not THAT comfortable. Plus, he needs to recharge and downoad (if he has a laptop) assuming he's been taking shots the whole time.
