In regaurds to this picture
I just want everyone to know that thats just they way he is. he is in no danger from it. I didnt mean to exploit him. I certainly did nothing to him to make them stand out. I'm sorry it distrurbed and frightened some of you. I find it beautiful and amazing. also he doesnt have on any makeup. i didnt even do anything to make his lips stand out, and his eyelashes have always been so long that they get crushed up against his glasses. I'm perfectly happy with my score. this isnt about that. I was just not prepared for the comments I received. rest assured he's fine. no need to be afraid for or of him.

I was wondering about this, Crystal. Thanks for the explanation!

well, it's good to know that he's perfectly healthy

I saw this shot and it reminded me of a cancer patient shot... I hope you don't find that offensive...

I looked through your portfolio and I'm assuming that the girl and boy in all those portraits are your two children (?)... and if that is him as well, he's a very handsome guy! and I much prefer to see him in those shots, lol

I personally appreciate your posting this thread, makes me feel better

No, I don't find it offensive. don't worry. it just hurts me to know what hell have to go through when he starts school. not so much AT school. hell be covered but pool parties. etc. it being the south a boy with his shirt off isnt that rare. I figured others would find it cool, but I'm worried now he'll be considered weird or scary. man now i'm gonna cry. I just love him too much to know what may lie ahead for him. And yes those others pics in my portfolio are of him. thank you for your comment I appreciate you telling me why.

Crystal, please don't worry about him. All kids have something - glasses, they're overweight, too tall, too small. He won't be amongst the perfect!!
My son was always the smallest and I worried about him so much as he grew up, thinking he would be bullied. He wasn't. He's now 6ft tall. Children are often more accepting than adults. His friends will accept him as he is...and he may grow out of it. He's a gorgeous child. He'll be fine, trust me;)

Lol Thank you for your kind words. hes got the trifecta. or whatever it woudl be for four things if you count his many scars from his time in the NICU. hes also very short(not on the charts for his age) and wears glasses. lol. hes not overweight though but he loves t.v., video games and eats like a horse so thats not far behind. j/k the kid loves to "exersice" they both do. who knew? I hate it. ha ha

I agree with the others. All kids will have something.

Crystal, I found your challenge entry hauntingly beautiful and fully expected it to be in the top 20 at least.
You have gorgeous children. Good luck to you and your family.

I think this shot is cool. Technically I thought it could have done with better focus point (either eyes or his shoulders - it kinda got caught in between IMO). But it doesn't affect the picture for me. I really liked the shot, the title and the concept. Nothing wrong with your boy at all - I find it amazing also. Actually, I was taking this, I would have selectively saturated this shot to bring out the blues of the veins even further. But then I may not have v DPC tastes :).

Of course, I am not sure he's gonna love this on his 18th bday / 21st bday / wedding day when this picture competition entry will undoubtedly be shown :).

Anyway, keep photographing - you have a wonderful subject.

LoL. no in my husband's (Elvis_L) portfolio is a pic of him when he was still in the hospital with all the machines, wires, and stuff when he was only 1 lb. That pic will be the one we'll pull out at birthdays lol. and when he brings girlfriends over. :)

bump for anyone else who may have been concerned about the picture.

I had no concerns about the picture, I didn't find it scary or wierd. Your son is perfect the way he is, and the ohters are right. He will be liked by other kids for who he is, not how his skin looks. Most kids will probably find it kinda cool. My youngest son was also a preme, I understand the feelings you have of overprotecting him. I get that way with all three of my kids. Thanks for having the balls to show your son to all of us in such a vulnerable yet strong way.

Ahhh. The grown up version of the little one in my favorites. So glad he is doing great and that some cool looking veins are his only problem now.

Just look at him here:

I'd say he's come a long way. What a treasure he must be to you and Elvis.

I also picked up on the 'cancer patient' vibe... I kinda felt that it had more to do with the strange shadowing around the eyes and the fact that you cropped away the hair... Cropping away the hair can often give an odd feel to a picture..

Yup. there it is. the special Odin shot. I was too lazy to go get the ID# lol. Thanks dudephil. He sure is a treasure but so is Odyssey too. we got lucky with the great kids. ;)

yes, I would agree with this too, I think also that you caught him with a very sullen expression on his face...

I also think he will be fine with other kids, I was always (still am) very very pale skinned and then freckled to top it off, I would never wear shorts or go swimming in public, until one day I decided to get over it...

haha, funny story, when I lived in the caribbean, where-ever I worked, the tourists would always ask, "do you live here?" I would get so confused, like, "no, I fly in every morning just for work, whadda you mean, do I work here?".... and the bold or the dumb ones would always reply, "well, I just thought, well, because you're so white"

hahah.... everyone has something, it's how they feel about that affects their life

Yeah it's nice. we do alot more together now than ever before. It's the first thing we completly agree on. our 6 year anniversary is next tuesday and we've been together 8 years total. it took us almost that entire time to find soemthing we both enjoy. lol. but it was worth it.

and to amandalore: yes , You're right. i'm very pale and freckled too. my friends(well enemies too. always joked that I glow in the dark and random strangers would scream "get a tan" at me. but i never cared. by high school I was a grunge/goth/punk mix and I made it work for me. :)
