I took about 100 photos today and I still don't have a zen entry. Does anyone have any zen for me to meditate on? ARG ARG ARG! :D

Let's see. On Monday a new challenge is issued: Zen. Now, on Sunday, the day before, I spent the afternoon photographing a Buddhist temple and its grounds...and none of the photos (many very zen-like) can be used because they all predate the challenge by a matter of hours.

Do I mind this fateful circumstance, this missed deadline, this display of universe against me? Is there pain associated with dpc's choice of deadline?

Aaaahhhhh. It is but water rippling within my soul. I can feel the peace and tranquility that fills me. ...Now to create a new Zen photo with even greater peace and harmony (...and with the proper date on it...).

You can always make prints of all those photos you took, arrange them on the ground in a dimly lit room and get a silhouette of you meditating over them as your challenge entry. ;)

I think I have an anti-zen field around me. I keep looking around me but everything seems very busy and not in the least serene. :\

I must be zen-challenged.

I thought and thought and thought....and then clicked the photo which I did not thought about! Maybe, thats Zen :)

Not if you think it is.

Become one with the busy, Siahopper. Then, and only then, will the inherent serenity of the busy become evident.

I'm in!

I found this particularly challenging. I usullay try to go for the DPC "WOW" factor, but WOW is so not zen. Or if it has little WOW factor does that indeed give a zen wow factor thereby cancelling out the zen of it all?

unfortunately I'm not in... yet.

Just can't seem to think of an idea.. maybe tomorrow.

I'm zenless. I've searched all day, burned a quarter of a tank of very precious and expensive gasoline, been all over town and country, and am still without zen. Zen to me involves cool, serene, calm, which is hard to find when it's 100 degrees out and there's a river of sweat running down your back and all the nifty fountains and pools and such are dry because we're in an "official drought" and there are people EVERYWHERE trying to cut in front of you on the freeway or knocking you out of the way at the mall.

Yep. Zenless. Think I'll make me a nice cool drink then take a nap. Now there's zen for you.... :-)

Relax, take a deep breath, you're in San Antonio, go to Mi Tierra have a 'rita or 3. Zen will follow.

I'm in Houston. We had to get out before 8 AM just to be able to spend an hour or 2 out looking for Zen subject matter. Then we went to the zoo to see all the animals asleep in the shade.

Yeah, I thought about the zoo, but it doesn't open early enough. Already too durn hot by the time it opens, and like you said, all the animals are asleep in the shade if they come out at all. They're smarter than us stupid humans....

My thoughts on "Zen", re the essence of "Zen".....

"Zen" to me is firstly a quiet, silence, peacefull image, but it can also be the elements of the earth. A oriental feeling, and even "Ying & Yang", in a way.

Looking at the following re "Zen"; Nature - Water - Sky - Plants - Rocks - Flowers - Animals - Birds, all are zen, but is is how it is composed, and photographed, that makes it real "Zen".....

This is a great site for "Zen" images, but unsure how to add this link to this thread. (Can someone tell me howe to do this please).....

//www.bigzenphotography.com

All my "Agave" images are "Zen", also my rocks, and I feel most of my images are "zen" in some way, as that is how I look at life, plants, and art in gereral.....

Best of Luck everyone.....

I am going to "vote" and "comment" on every entry in this one as I feel very close to the emotions and life of "Zen". That is if my health lets me, as I am kind "of out of wack", re my health at the moment.....

/me takes away Sherpets quotation marks as she is abusing them.

/me gives Sherpet back her quotation marks - she's free to use them as she pleases :-)

And I like Sherpet's definition of "zen" just fine... means I might actually have something I can use.

I'm finally in... I am an intransigent SOB and I had a specific image in mind, and the weather is NOT cooperating... But I produced something this evening that is at least respectable (I hope) and it will do if tomorrow does not allow me to take my previsualized image.

Robert,

Good luck with tomorrow's efforts.

I have to say that I am incredibly jealous of people who have/can make the time for a repeated visit to a location during a challenge week just to get the weather/light right.

I reply to MattO, I am sorry you don't like all my " " (quotations) and proberly all my........, (and often many spelling mistakes) but I don't really care, as I at least do make a huge amount of comments, each and every day, and also love making new threads.

So if you don't like it, take a miss on all my comments, and threads, as I am going to continue to do whatever I like, re how I do my "comments" and "threads".....

Also thanks so much for your support Melethia. You are one in a million.

I don't think he was doing anything more than having a bit of fun with you. As a fellow puncuation abuser, I've been known to take my agressions out on poor defenceless commas. :)

In the spirit of the challenge, I offer the following:

A monk asked Zhaozhou to teach him.
Zhaozhou asked, "Have you eaten your meal?"
The monk replied, "Yes, I have."
"Then go wash your bowl," said Zhaozhou.
At that moment, the monk was enlightened.

Yep it was, apparently I mistakenly took her sense of humor as well. Will someone please give it back to her as well?

I thought you had a home. If you're intransigent, does that mean I have to bring a tent when I visit? Or just my own cardboard box?

:-)
