Only found one definition for this one - //dictionary.reference.com/search?q=shadowboxing

The topic of this theme can be taken literally or as an idiomatic expression that refers to someone exerting effort with no immediate practical end. A person practicing for an upcoming contest could be said to be shadow boxing as well as a person just exercising.

When a boxer couldn't find a training partner, they would sometimes box against their shadow as an imaginary opponent; hence the term shadowboxer.
