Just a note:

Photographs that have won awards or have been subjected to any previous form of judging process will not be accepted.

I guess DPC Entries counts as a form of judging process? As do photos entered at local fairs etc. So you gotta make sure your photo hasn't ever been entered into a competition before.

I think you are right. But submissions for this contest start on September 1 and end on November 30. Plenty of time to come up with an ideea and shoot some new photos.

Ok...silly question for a Nikon competition...but is it only for Nikon cameras and how are they going to verify that if it is?

If it is only for Nikon cameras, then with digital they can check the unedited file like on DPC. With film it's impossible to know what camera it was shot with, so I'm guessing it's propably open to all.

Is not only for Nikon cameras. They accept both film and digital cameras.

Q.4: I have read that photos and images previously published will not be accepted.
What about photos or images that have been posted on a Web site?
A.4: Such photos and images will be accepted, provided that they have only been posted for non-commercial purposes, on an online photo album or a personal Web site.
(Please note that in all circumstances, entrants must possess copyrights and all necessary rights covering submitted photographs (images) for them to be accepted as valid entries. Photographs that have won any award, been published or have been submitted to any other photo contest are not eligible as entries.)

Hmmm...I'd kind of be surprised if a challenge entry here were to be grounds for preventing a shot from being entered in a prize-awarding contest. Maybe there's a way to ask Nikon...?

I list a lot of them here:

From the FAQ:
Q.3: Do entrants have to use Nikon equipment for entry works (photos/images)?

A.3: No, there is no such restriction. (Note: Only photos and images taken using 35mm film cameras, APS cameras and/or digital still cameras, not including medium or large format digital cameras, will be accepted.)

So, even we Canon owners can enter!!

There's a new one just started on photocamel. Not a huge prize, but it's still money :).

The nice thing about this contest vs a lot of the others is this: "Entrants retain all copyrights and other equivalent rights to entered photographs, however the organizer will possess rights as stated below in “Rights of the organizer.”
Finally a contest that doesn't screw the photog out of the rights of their work!
The "Rights of the organizer" section says they get permanent non exclusive use of your shot, which for first prize is a pretty fair deal.

another opportunity to shamelessly plug Digital Image Cafe (which I bought in March)

Members compete in daily POTD (Photo of the Day) contests. The daily winners are eligible for prizes in the monthly and quarterly contests.

We have *lots* of members from DPChallenge and more are always welcome.

I do a photography contest at my website, but it's really just a shameless way to show people that I actually send out prizes. Whenever someone completes my website Free Rewards 4 You I ask them to take a photo of the gift when they receive it and I pick the best looking photo and give them a referral credit. When I get enough photos I'm gonna start a gallery.

Just putting here my thoughts...

Q: Could a award winning photograph from the Nikon Photo Contest International win a DPC Challenge?

R: I don't think so. DPC decisions are made from the majority, and majorities always pushes the quality down.

IMO
