I think that's a great idea, just as long as you do save the votes till then. Sometimes I only get to vote on a couple of pictures a night.

Which is why I would think it would make more sense to leave the <20% votes intact until the final tally. Assume they will finish the voting - inncoent until proven guilty - all that rot.

Moondoggie and debcard: No votes are ever deleted. They are simply flagged for ignore.

Gordon: They are not e-mailed or anything, but this is clearly stated in the site rules: "Users must vote on at least 20% of the entries in order to have their votes counted towards the averages."

I don't believe they're wasting their time every week -- It is a fact (and I can go run some statistics if you'd like) that the large part of those votes thrown out are: a) newly registered users who might have signed up and either realized they didn't want to vote on 100 images or didn't realize how the voting scheme worked. or b) users who vote on 1 or 2 images, again, not paying attention to or not seeing the site rules.

When the system becomes automatic, we will have an alert on the voting page to warn you that your votes won't be counted.

ryano: Thanks, as always, for your thoughtful suggestions. The ignore process needs to be done on several parts of the site (including some admin sections), and we figure rather than patching/unpatching/and implementing the new system for all those parts, we'll just implement the system. ... when we have time.
