I have been doing some custom art for an interior designer friend. What do you think?

and more in my portfolio.

Just wondering what you guys think of turning photography into painting like art for this purpose?

I think that would be fun and challenging - a great niche and I know what some people around here pay for custom houseplant arrangements, so it could be very successful.

Got any pics of the finished products in their interiors?

Best of luck with it! :)

You can try to hook up with a Realtor or Home builder and/or a model home staging service and provide them with framed prints to hang in model homes or homes for sale and have your biz card on it or a stack nearby.

I have mixed feelings about this.

On the one hand, I'm 100% behind more or less anything you, personally, can do to make money from your camera. Seriously. And if there's a market for this stuff and you can provide it, that's terrific, and it's sort of fun too, isn't it?

On the other hand, it pisses me off that the "interior design people", as a rule, won't buy photography unless it is "turned into art" by making it more "painterly"... I know they won't, I've tried.

But that's not your problem :-)

Thanks for the comments. I will post some pics after the rooms are finished. I hope this does turn into a profitable niche for me. I also plan to prepare some of these for display in the local artsy high end restaurants that display local artist work for sale. I am hoping to get my name out that way as well. Lori, I love the textures in your work - very nice. Ken, I left a few comments on your pics as well. Great wildlife shots!

Thanks.

Hey Robert,

I have to agree that it is tiresome that many do not see pure photography as "Art" unless it has some well known name attached. I can't really think of these as photography, but I guess I can see it as an artistic outlet that might help me offest the cost of my photography equip! Thanks. - D.

That's just not true, bear. My son's room is full of your prints without any painterly effects added...

Granted, I didn't actually pay for them. ;-P

That does make a difference, ya know? But I have to admire your obvious skill at upsampling from 640 pixels, dude...
