hi DPC'ers,
here is a small addition for tracking your dpc stats, i hope someone will find it useful (i do) and i think it's really not complicated to adjust and use it

1. download the excel spreadsheet from //www.goc1.com/dl/DPC_STATS_TEMPLATE.xlt ... yeah, my gallery :-) ... while you there take a look ...

2. download textpad editor for small editing of your data //www.textpad.com/download/index.html#downloads , i'm using it for several years, or you can use any other text editor which does not garble the text in oblivion :-)

3. go to coolest member profile page :-) //www.dpchallenge.com/profile.php , scroll down to bottom of challenge entries, mark "Show All"

4. order your entries by date in order with the newest on the BOTTOM

5. now we are gonna make some serious copy/paste operation :-), but first position your cursor between the arrow and the title of your first (the one on the top) challenge entry so the cursor gets vertical line shape, now click and drag the selection to the bottom of challenge entries to the end of your last (the one on the bottom) challenge entry just slightly right from faves column, depress the mouse button and right click on any blue marked selection, click on copy

6. open new document in textpad or in appropriate tool

7. paste the content of your clipboard (the thing where is your copied data now :-)) in the new opened document

8. you'll probably see some kinda mumbo-jumbo but this is okay

9. now to the biggest job, the data between challenge title and challenge name is separated with 2 (two) TAB's (usualy a 8 character empty space), to get rid of one TAB space just position the cursor at the end of your challenge title and press once DELETE, do this for every challenge entry (row)

10. when finished save the file as DPC_STATS.txt (recommended)

11. copy the the entire content of the document (press CTRL + A) and then CRTL + C (copy)

12. open DPC_STATS_TEMPLATE.xls

13. position yourself into C3 field and paste everything in

14. if everything went fine you should see some numbers and two charts in separate sheets, now you can add very easily every new challenge entry and edit or add new formulas as you wish

15. save the excel spreadsheet with new name in case something "bad" happens

16. any question you can ask here, i hope somebody will answer :-), or even better if you have problems - me (or anyone else who has time and will) can do it for you ... thanks

peace,
goran

EDIT: some text formating, and some small additions

EDIT2: ok. known problems ...

1. very long titles can make problems in intermediate TEXT file, be careful when deleting TAB spaces, between title and challenge title must be only ONE TAB space

2. decimal places corrected in new version of spreadsheet, the mask is X.XXX

3. date column can maybe behave strangely namely i use DD.MM.YYYY formatting and everybody else has also their region formatting

4. the spredsheet is not formatted for more than 60 entries so you have to do it on your own :-|

5. hmm ... the numbers definetly are not the same as on DPC personal stats, averages ... why ? i don't know :-)

20.11.2006. above mentioned errors are corrected

Thanks for sharing.

Yep, I did all that, including deleting one TAB space. But ... the first average score is entered in C-5. The challenge entry titles occur on every third line (on average - some are more, some are two). This makes a nonsense of the graph charts except for the linear average

i think i missed a thing here ... just a second :-)

hmm, well ... i tried again and everything is okay ... can you make sure that every challenge entry is in its own line in text editor ? in textpad - (View - Line Numbers)

new edit : hey, i tried with your data and i got it right the problem is when you have very long titles the deletion of ONE TAB space does NOT fix the problem ... do you want me to send you your version of this EXCEL spreadsheet ?

Was bored (like you must have been, hehe) so I put up my stats there. Ran into one problem, every entry that only hat two or less decimal points, like my archictecture III shot that had a 6.2 flat came out like a date and I had to manually put those in, was no problem really, only had 5 entries that had less than 3 decimal points.

Anyway, for those interested (wich can´t be that many) it seems this site works, I am getting better, well at least scoring better here :)

1-15: 5.910, 76%
16-30: 6.479, 90%
31-45: 6.486, 91%
46-60: 6.630, 92%
61-74: 6,694 91%

Edit: Those last % were pointing to the wrong column so I corrected it, 78% didn make sense as I only had one challenge under that % mark :)

61-74: 6,694 but only 78% here

Seems the scoring has ben unusally high in the 14 last challenges I have been in.

aa, okay ... i guess i have to put this column formatin as decimal number, somethnig like X.XXX ...

That sounds like it might do the trick ;)

the formula doesn't take number of votes into account, correct?

for instance a score of 5 and score of 6 would yield a 5.5 average even if the the score 6 had 300 total votes compared to 100 total votes on the score of 5 (which would be a 5.75 average if total votes were factored in).

no, number of votes is not counted, but for some reason we can use it if we want :-) ... or better not ... LOL

edit: i mean CORRECT, the formula doesn't take number of votes into account

i have to go for a coffee :-)

You can avoid these two steps by copying the data (selected as gooc indicates) and pasting it straight into a new Excel sheet, selecting "destination formatting" from the pop up menu. This can then be copied and pasted into gooc's spreadsheet (again, selecting "destination formatting" to keep the pretty colours).

The trick is to do something with your stats...

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/26679/thumb/339100.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/26679/thumb/339100.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

I built my tracker about 3 months ago and as soon as I started recording my results I seemed to get better............. :)

addition :

in L3 cell for real average score type =AVERAGE($F$3:$F6)
and drag the selection down as far as you like :-)
then you just have to make another graph ...

I dunno...when I copy/paste it from my text editor, the values don't go into their respective cell locations...it just gets all garbled.

I don't have Microsoft Office, I have OpenOffice.org 2.0 -- maybe that's why.

If you wanna do it, that'd be cool. Otherwise, I'm going to enter my data manually later lol. If not, I don't blame you. If you do though, dbpaull[at]comcast[dot]net

I am having the same problem. I remove the tab between the title and the challenge name, copy and paste it into the Excel sheet. The first cell in each row has all the data for the row, not spliting it up into the comlumns.

I am using Text Pad and Excel

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/52713/thumb/398748.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/52713/thumb/398748.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

Edit to add screen shot

if i find some time i'll do it for you and deapee :-)

Ya'll are making this too difficult.

Copy your stats, save them to a text file, and go to data/import external data/import data on the menu (or whatever it is for openOffice) and just go through the wizard with the defaults. Works like a charm.
