I am trying to upload a picture for the nostalgia challenge and it keeps telling me that I am exceeding the 150k file size. I went back to look at my photo and Photoshop says that it is 145.6k in file size. The first time I tried to load it a box came up and told me that it wasn't the right file format but it is a JPEG. Is DPC going nutty tonight? I'm sending it at 72ppi and it is a JPEG and it is only 145.6k. What does anyone think the problem is?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I know this happened to me. I had copies of the same image at different file sizes and I kept trying to upload the bigger one because I renamed them to close to each other.
You may have to go back into your software and shrink it back to 145.6 again. Which program are you using and how are you shrinking it? Save as web or resizing? Save as web is better.

I'm using Photoshop 7 and I will try saving for the web. It is a pain.

I just saved for the web and it changed my red border to a yellow gold one. I assume it is changing the tint on my photo also. What's up with that.

Are you shooting in .RAW then converting to jpeg? Make sure you're saving it as exif compliant and not jfif compliant. I believe Internet Explorer (and maybe other browsers) cannot display them. I remember reading that if DPC recognizes that it's a jfif jpeg it will reject it. But I'm probably totally wrong.

Always keep the original. I always keep a copy of my reworked copy as a TIFF and another copy in the save for web mode. Thus I have 3 copies in different modes.

Even when the file itself is 145.6k, a few k will be reserved for directory info. I usually save these files somewhere between 128k and 138k, then check the total size again (highlight file icon and select Get Info or Command i, on the Mac) to make sure the final upload stays under 150k.

For reference, I uploaded my entry for "insects" tonite, and the file size is reported (WinXP) as 148k, or 151,552 bytes. This was accepted. Always check the file size using the operating system, not the size reported by Photoshop. As stated above, it can be slightly different.

150KB = 150 * 1024 = 153,600 bytes; this is the absolute maximum size.

Thanks all - I did a save for web and it went. I don't know what the problem was because I always send it the same size and the same way. I have a feeling that DP was having a problem for awhile because I waited about 30 minutes and then sent the same picture just "save for web" and it went.
