I can't wait. By the time this camera hits the market, I'll have read this review so many times, I'll be able to recite it by heart. LOL!

I've been waiting for this camera to be launched to make the leap to DSLRs. SOOOON.

Cool. Welcome to team Canon. I still find it hard to believe that we already have sub $1000 DSLRs ... $899. That is very cool.

Bah, it's still beyond my budget for now. Thanks Canon, you've just put me in a serious dilemma - bite the bullet and spend more $$$ (body, lenses, flash, etc) or hang on to my Olympus gear and go ahead with my plan to get the FL-40 flash. Or do both. Yaaagh, I'm going insane!!!!!

lol just letting out some steam after a hard day's work. ;-)

Thanks but I'm not there yet. Just in spirit only. Ijust fininshed reading the review. I can't wait to "join the team" to start experiencing noise free images, among other great features.

I'm seriously thinking of purchasing this or the Canon 10D. My question: how long does the battery last? I love my Fuji602 as I can easily replace the batteries. I like to take 200-300 pics some days! It appears it would not be possible to re-charge the Canon's battery'on the road'. Any comments?

I wish I had my manual handy, but I think the battery will be good for 500 shots, depending on the use of flash. That has been my experience. Battery life has never been a factor. I bought two $13 generic batteries on EBay as back up, just in case. Used one of them once.

edit: I found my instruction manual.

No flash: 650 shots, 50% with flash: 500 shots

Not too shabby.

There is a car charger for that big battery... just an extra expense
If you get the 10-d, the part is the CR-560, and its $150-200. Holds two batteries though (a further expense)

A much cheaper and more versatile approach would be...

Inverter

Use this bugger with your normal charger. It's also great for those other 120V devices that you occasionally want to use on the road.

I am in New Zealand, I presume these prices are $US...
We operate on 240 volts
Can anyone tell me how many pics one can take in RAW mode on the D10 with the battery? I imagine it would be similar for the D300. Still can't decide between the 2! The D10 is NZ$3000 ( no lens') the D300 has a lens supplied at NZ$2000

robro, can't help you with your big decision, but I saw that charger for about AUS$240, if that helps. Wait until October and have a feel of the 300-d firsthand. Funny, those prices are the same here, but in AUD$ !

I personnally bought a 40$ inverter as well from an electronic store ( look into the game boy section ;-)

The battery last a long time on a 10D/300D due to CMOS technoogy using less power.

My understanding is that the 300D might use a little more power than the 10D because of the AI focus mode. not 100% sure

My experience is that the offical canon battery will last over 300 pictures (mostly non-flash) on one charge.

I bought on the recomendation of the local camera store a replacement battery made by a third party. The replacement battery, while taking twice the charging time, and you have to charge it before the first use, can take about double the number of pictures. You find the replacement by looking at what will fit one of the Canon digicams. (same battery number)
