Hello,
I'm currently a member of two stock agencies:
www.onrequestimages.com and
www.photographersdirect.com
Both of these are pretty fabulous because you only send in images when a client has a specific request. You get the requests by email (I highly recommend them). I've just started to do photography full-time and I'm anxious to expand all my options (as I'm sure we all are). I was wondering if anyone knows of other agencies that operate by client requests (that pay more than $50 a photo).

| I know Alamy sends out a monthly newsletter that has a list of specific images they need, but not exactly a request- more like a list of what will likely sell... |

MyLoupe occasionally sends out specific requests, but not nearly as much as PD

Here is a good one. They always send me emails requesting photos from all over the world. I have just recently gotten one I can do. It's mostly for landscapes.

I just signed up for On Request Images and referred you ccraft. So if you don't get any money from it, than I must not have made it.

Acclaim sends out a LOT of requests via e-mail for people to submit specific needed images.

I've recently heard of this practice. There are a lot of photographers who are against it. The reason is that it is not stock photography. It is speculative assignment photography. (This is different from legitmate stock agencies putting out general "want lists".)
Ordinarily, an agent for an assignment photographer receives a 10%-25% commission. Here, they're getting 50%+, and you may get nothing for your troubles because they are asking several photographers to shoot "on spec".
My feeling is if you are asked to shoot something for a specific client you should be paid, provided you have come through on your end.

I've had a few requests for more info about:

It is by request only. I've been with them for a while and sent them a letter when I first joined, but you can probably just send them an email saying you want to be put on their photographer email list.
The BEST book out there for all of this is the 2006 Photographer's Market. It lists everything you need to know about selling your pictures to companys in any medium (landscapes, portraits, commercial). Just go to the library and pick one up, they usually have the prior years book, but not much changes.

Photographer's direct takes 20% on 'request' sales which isn't too bad really... you set your own price, and then any contact with a buyer in the future is yours to make.

Does onrequestimages work the same way as photographersdirect?
What does this mean "One to five photographers are assigned to each shoot. Images are usually expected within two to three days."
So, they will assign you to the project? Can you not shoot if you have been assigned? |

While it's true that Photographers Direct does send out e-mails requesting specific images, those e-mails are generated from buyers with a specific need not already met by existing images.
So, if you have images in the database all ready to go, a buyer can purchase them without submitting an image request. At PD, you can choose to shoot on spec or not, as it pleases you.
