I'm trying to generate some interest. Mandy is coming down in October with her family and wants to meet up with everyone. I think if there is enough interest we could get a group rate at the Disney campground and stay there. Great opportunities in Fort Wilderness itself (Tri-Circle D Ranch, wild peacock) as well as possibly visiting one of the parks. I believe Epcot was mentioned earlier.

I'll call about a group rate and see what is available and get pricing.

my husband(elvis_l) and I are interested. we would have our two kids with us too. I'm not sure if it's too late to reserve something for that many people though. I think you need to do that REALLY far in advance. but if it can be done. WE'll be there.

If you decide to go to Orlando, I can get you a suite for 8 people. It is one mile from the Disney complex. This year I couldn't use it, so I may charge you only the maintenance fee. PM me if anyone is interested.

We have a place to stay already btw.

So, how about it. Is this going to happen?
08/12/2006 12:25:09 PM · #57
I will be there. I just need to know when and where. I am not sure about our "family" plans. I don't want to do a dpc gtg when all 16 (my family) of us are at disney.

If you do go I can't go. But I do recommend going to Turkey Lake. It is near Universal and it can give you some excellent pictures. I have gone there many times to row. We get up early and are able to see the sunrise. I took a picture of the sunrise and it is one of my best pictures.

I am a tentative - my Fall schedule is full of soccer games, but I may be able to break away.

So, let's post a tentative date and place and then discuss it. anybody...?

I'm here in Orlando, but we just had a baby on Tuesday, so my attendance depends on when we're talkin'. And whether it's in a park or not, because for me, it would be not--no pass right now, and not likely to get one for a while again.

TENTATIVE DATE and LOCATION

Saturday, September 30 and/or Sunday, October 1 at Epcot Center

How does this work out for everybody?
08/13/2006 02:13:29 AM · #64
I'm up for that.
08/20/2006 07:34:11 PM · #65
Me too, thats good for me.
08/22/2006 03:08:25 AM · #66
Sounds good..

When I think of Epcot I don't think of it as a place to shoot, just to go in the rides; although that may be due to the fact that I've never tried it before. Anyhow, I think it would be good if we had some Orlando locals recommend a good shooting location in addition to Epcot.

So, we got some agreement on the date, Saturday, September 30 and/or Sunday, October 1 .

Could somebody in the Orlando area recommend a shooting location in addition to, or instead of Epcot.

Then we'll need somebody with local knowledge to steer this GTG and nail down some more details.

I shoot at Epcot often as I live and work here. Am also new to this posting and would love to join all of you. What are the details of this meet? Time, place -
There is the Boardwalk area, which is the back entrance to Epcot (through France) and it too is a good area for shooting. The hotels in tht area always have some interesting places too.
If you wanted to be in an area with a lot of people, then downtown Disney might offer some good shots too.
Personally - I would rather spend the whole day at Epcot. It's large and there are many areas that are photo appealing.

Hey Godiva, sounds like the person with local knowledge that we have been looking for, especially regarding Epcot.

To answer your question about the details of this meeting, so far all we have agreed on is the date. Past GTGs in Florida have pretty much fizzled before they happened, but this one seems to be gaining some speed.

What we really need is someone with local knowledge to lead us to finalize some details. Maybe you could read through the thread with most of the emphasis on most recent postings and see if you might be up to it. Some have expressed an interest in keeping the budget on the lower side, which is one reason why the Orlando area is appealing: cheap, good motels, with lots to do in the area. Someone also mentioned camping at Fort Wilderness. Although I love camping, I'm not interested in camping during the hot and humid months.

BTW, I didn't know that there is a back entrance to Epcot. I'm sure that you don't "live" there, but do you work there at Epcot?

I live in Orlando and can get some of the planning done. There are many parks in the area that lend themselves to shooting if we decide not to visit WDW. However, WDW does offer many places of interest other than going to the theme parks. Of course there are the other theme parks in the are as well.

Let me know what you need me to organize and I'll do my best.

See you all soon.

Really wish I could make this GTG...seems every time one starts getting put together I end up with something else I have to do. That particular weekend is a reptile show here in Tampa that I will be attending. I will keep my eyes peeled for the next GTG down the road. Looking forward though to seeing all the great pics everyone takes.

So is this still happening?

Let's narrow down a place.

Who is in favor of meeting at Disney? Epcot would be really cool but it does cost a bit to get in. If we stay on the inexpensive side we can meet at the Boardwalk. There are restaurants there as well as really nice resorts to shoot at. There is also Downtown Disney.

Who wants to meet at an area park? (As in nature, not theme) We can narrow this selection down once we get an idea of theme park or nature park.

There is also downtown Orlando.

Sound off everyone. Let's make this thing happen.

Mandy Turner will also be in town the first week in October and would like to join us.

edited because I can't spell. I is a college stoodent. :)

For the beach I heartily recommend Canaveral National Seashore over any of the public beaches. It is pristinely clean, virtually empty at all times, and you're in the shadow of the shuttle launch pads. It is a perfect setup for beachy landscape work. I spent the night on Cocoa Beach with a friend once to watch the sunrise.

As for Disney, October/November is the best time to go. The weather is good and the lines are down. I worked on the BoardWalk for a year and spent a lot of time in EPCOT. This was all pre-photography, so I'm not one to ask about Disney photo spots, but there are Kodak Picture Spot signs all over the parks. I definitely recommend Canaveral though.

I don't live in Orlando anymore or I would go.
