Not out yet. You probably went on-line and saw out of stock. You can pre-order you D300 this way. I think they come out in November.

Shipping will start sept 15 according to a Texas shop owner.
I've read that the official date of first sales is sept 20.
Amazon says it will ship from oct 15.

A Dutch shop says it expects them in november.

I'll take a holiday and see what's left in the wallet before I decide to go with the 300D or 10D + good lenses.

Got this from one site:

Canon EOS Digital Rebel Kit + $75 credit towards any Canon Lens or Flash w/Purchase! and FREE ground shipping! (will ship 9/23)

The other site simply said out of stock. I thought it was out.

It is showing up all over in PriceGrabber.

Whats the specs on the 300D...better than 10D?

Worse - its a cut down version. Pretty much the same internals, cheaper body, less flexible controls. So the same image quality without the flexibility and robustness of the 10D.

300D review

The comparision is handy. A lot of the stuff thats worse in the 300D is things that get really annoying to not have control over, really quickly if you start wanting to get more creative. (metering mode/ AF mode selection, flash sync, mirror lock up) Canon probably hope to double their SLR sales with it, both for a low entry and second sales of people stepping up to more fully featured 10D replacement.

Make that triple their sales. Production rate is 30.000 for the 10D and 70.000 for the 300D per month.

I´m planning my purchase and need some advice...
What do you think about putting on Tamron AF 28-200/3,8-5,6 ASL XR lens on this camera instead of the kit lens?

as I dont know much about lenses, I picked one with the zoom range and price that I want... and ofcourse one that fits the eos cameras =)
it also stated that this lens have been awarded lens of the year (2002).
They sell it for about $350 (inc local taxes)

any comments?

You would be satisfied with the combination, I think; you may want to consider the Canon version as well, it can be had for very nearly the same price. I have the Canon 28-200, and I've been impressed with it for what it is. It's never going to equal a good prime, but you've got a lot of flexibility. It's a very good value, and a good choice for a first lens.

Here is a site that reviews lenses, with results of their testing

You can go through the Canon, or alternatively, the Tamrons, Sigmas, etc.

Yes, you guys should have this camera out in a few weeks... but for us down here (Aus), it will take an extra month

Thanks for your replies.
Unfortually the canon 28-200 lens kirbic is another $200 over here, if I´m not mistaken. Think I will save and upgrade later to the Canon EF 28-135/3,5-5,6 IS USM, or maybe the combo Canon EF 75-300/4-5,6 IS USM and a macro/close(er) shooting lens.
phew, that the combination possibilities are endless doesnt make life easier! ;)

Another thing that I´m not on the clear with is, if a lens is zooming 300 on a 35mm camera, will that zoom then be cropped by 1,6 times on a digicam or is the sensor just using 1,6 times less area on the lens, still getting just as close as with a 35mm camera? abit confused =)

The sensor is "seeing" only the central part of the image circle of the lens. Effectively, you'll get a FoV that LOOKS like you're at 480mm. That's the source of the term "FoV crop" when referring to SLRs with smaller-than-35mm sensors.
