As of this year I now have adopted three sections of highway I clean. The new 4 miles is on Rt. 7 - the main road into Williamstown. It is not the amount of garbage, the cars/trucks speeding past, or the people that throw their garbage out the window right in front of me (if I get their plate # I turn them in) that scares/bothers me...it is the number of beer cans and liquor bottles I pick up that scares me. With all the attention being paid to drinking and driving and the stiff penalties levied here in MA even for your first DWI, you would think people would would have more sense. Today alone, after one week, I picked up 49 beer cans (mostly Bud Light and Coors Silver Bullet - both disgusting as far as I am concerned) and 13 pint bottles of liquor all Popov Vodka... why is this so popular?

So it seems that people are not only drinking and driving, but drinking WHILE driving. That is scary as hell...at least to me.

Maybe it's not as popular as you believe, but rather one or two very messy drunks.

hmmmmm.....popov and silver bullet. reminds me of high school. popov is among the cheapest vodka you can get and yes, both beers indicate that you are dealing with newbie beer drinkers. i'd say it's kids. kids are bulletproof and plan to live forever so the stiff penalties aren't going to stop them. they never stopped me.

I would tend to agree. Is your stretch of highway near a college?

If you make just about every drug illegal except one, and create an expensive decades-long campaign to demonize and punish the use of all those other drugs, then you are obviously going to make that drug extremely popular.

I see that your in MA. Do any of the Kennedy's drive this stretch of road? I so even just one could be responsible for for ALL the cans and bottles. :)

(Sorry in advance for anyone I offended)

maybe (hopefully) they are not drinking while driving, but have to clean their cars out before they get home.

Opposite side of the state...luckily.

I suppose you can take a picture of all that was accumulated spread out next to some flowers, or show a baby in diapers walking in the foreground. Then post them to websites like MADD organization. Maybe send some pics to legislators. Or put a baby's picture, blown-up saying I play here, too.

Parents are, ultimately responsible for the raising or ignoring of their kids. Kids need alternative, healthier pastimes. Unfortunately the media is still much to blame. There is way too much *Hopelessness* in music lyrics.

Yes, before I was 28 and got married, I always drank and drove. Now, I would definitly reccommend the opposite to all. Some can do things better then others, but it's really not safe. I never threw too much out the window.

I find it scary and sad :(
My brother died because of drinking and driving...

I'm an advocate of stiffer penalties for drinking and driving...even if it's first time. Okay...I'm off my soapbox :)
