I looked but can't find....

How do I get it resized to 640 and not lose the camera data that DPC uses to verify no edits?

When I resize and save in Photoshop, the Metadata says "photoshop"...

Can someone guide me?

that is ok. when you are asked to verify your pic. they will have you submit the orig (larger) file with the exif data tags.

I was trying to be boring in the Candid challenge, but got sick and wasn't boring enough, so will have a go at it again: How the hell do you verify this un-tweaked photo? I mean, how do you approach a photo which looks just so good you want to strangle the phtographer? Click 'Suspect'? I know this club is the the last word in gentlemanly behaviour, but the scope for cheating here is just too wide for being practical. Side note: Do moderators note some challenges bring more than usual share of suspect violations?

Site Council can you answer this question? If my camera auto rotates and my software picks this up, is this legal?

Here is a little dilemma you may wish to ponder. Even when shooting RAW only, a jpeg is embedded and you can use an app like Preview Extractor to extract that jpeg from the raw.

Only problem is the current version does not extract the EXIF (next ver will) so if this jpeg is used the only exif is in the raw.

IMHO this is legal, but I am sure there will be arguments against it.

BTW: Preview Extractor does NO PP

the DSLRS will be easy to spot -
3:2 vs 4:3 wars are upon us ...

submitted mine ;)

I've been shooting RAW for over a year now. I have a DSLR so it seemed like the right thing to do. Because of this challenge, i used .jpeg. Since I am not impressed with .jpeg alone I decided to use my camera's picture styles. I am overwhelmed at how well it performed. I am amazed at what some of these images look like with in camera editing. It's gonna suck to decided which to use, but I've got what, 2 hours and 27 minutes? :)

As the special rules say "No RAW" and you are not able to supply an unmodfied JPEG original with EXIF for validation the process you are describing would result in a DQ.

Some cameras will shoot RAW + JPEG and this is OK - you then have two originals. The jpeg has all the exif data etc. Use the JPEG for DPC and the RAW for future mucking around.

I think it would be fine since "Absolutely NO post-processing is allowed except resizing and compression for the web." And, that is compression for web.

Compression does not include sharpening. The save for web action has sharpening as part of the downsizing process, as does image resize. Is there a way to turn sharpening off on these?

An answer from SC I think is in order on this one.

buk buk buk ... ;)

Find another subject or I'll call you a chicken, LOL.

I am really pleased with dpc for finally puting on this type of challenge, and with the reception it has gotten from most of the posters to this thread. I've been waiting a long time for this. People are learning things about their cameras that they didn't know before, and that's great. I am a little disappointed with the way some have not been able to understand the Special rules and description. I thought it was about as clear as it could possibly be yet some people seem to be trying to find loopholes instead of embracing the spirit of the challenge. Please remember that if your original is requested the SC will be trying to reproduce the look of your entry from it, and there is a lot of photo-editing and software expertise among that bunch. I think there is going to be a pretty fair number of entries (250-300), and they will be interesting to see during voting. They probably won't be as good as what we normally see in a member challenge. Speed challenges are gennerally a bit below regular challenges in overall image quality, and - well, .. no editing speaks for itself. But I think many of us are going to have a new respect for our camera's capabilities after it's all over. Good Luck to all!
