I did however spend better part of the week thinking about those shots and how I would make them work, so I definately agree on the "take your time" part :)

but you took the time to think about what you wanted to do.

Forethought is a major part of any work. But, when you go into something without a clue, without thought, without something to motivate your soul just to meet a deadline will always make the final outcome less then valuble.

Pushing a button on your camera is the easy part. Knowing why you are pushing that button is the challenge.

The only thing that you probably need to know is its price: more than many people's annual salary!

Developing a thick skin as regards how comments are made and received is a good trick here (and in life!). Your comments were marked useful by most others, so don't sweat it.

Holy cow...that is an expensive camera! I went to the link and omg...
My little s30 was a splurge for me! hehe!!!!

Rather than restating the challenge description, maybe try to give the photographer the benefit of the doubt. Assume they read it, understood it, and are creatively interpreting it (in all but flagrant cases).

We all want to say something useful and knowledgeable in our comments, but remember, any earnest photographer will want to know how their shot makes you feel, as long as you have a pair of eyeballs, and regardless of your track record.

The guy who took that shot is listed as shooting a Hasselblad digital... You might find that that right there is a major reason that you took some flak on your comment...

...because people with cameras with an asking price that could feed a third world country can't possibly take flawed photos. Didn't you know that? The more money you spend on your setup, the better your photo is absolutely 100% guaranteed to be! Hell, snapshots of the family dog obviously belong in the Louvre!

Seriously though, a camera is only as good as the brain behind it. A very good photo can still be very off topic. Dollars spent does not equate to a perfect theme concept.

Hey. I love my Hasselblad! Doesn't everybody have one? You can have one too...update your preferences.

BTW - I just listed that KM 5D as a toy.

Great fun isn't it Glad? Looks damned good on you too... Gonna have to change your userid to Glad2BaDadwitha_BLAD... or maybe a shorter version could be Glad2BaBladDad...

Plenty of bling with this one... Glad2BaBadassDadwithaHasselblad...

But 'lo! there goes the subtlety that I tried to couche around my point... Yoops!

I was actually trying to keep it clean because in the guy's defense, his perspective did have a point, and I will restate that he wasn't really being rude about it, just stating his viewpoint... I do the same thing, particularly when I don't agree with a comment... Sometimes when I don't agree with a comment but appreciate it anyhow...

Honestly, I know I shouldn´t but sometimes when I get comments that I disagree with, I look at the persons profile who made the comment and if their work unimpresses me, I just let it flow in one ear, out the other and mark the comment as helpful, just thinking to myself, "what does he/she know anyway, hehe" :) I suspect some people just can´t let that go though and have to lash out, I was like that one time too so I understand it...

I do this also but not so much evaluating their photos but rather evaluating their comments made. I also do that after the challenge to see how they comment on similar images in the challenge. I often find I can learn a lot about the person and whether their opinions hold any merit. I'm just here to improve my photography not meet one's narrow definition of a challenge or learn that you have an unhealthy bias about toothpicks or whatever the heck I was shooting that day. :P None of that makes me a better photographer but qualify comments and just listening to those I respect here in general has.

omigod, I finally understand glad2badad's username! I've been pronouncing it "gla-too-buh-dad"... not that I've been talking to myself or anything...
