Wow, I like this thread and it's pretty interesting. Mine is quite simple, really. "Mr" cause I'm a guy and "Akamai" is Hawaiian slang for smart. More of a play on words but I thought what the heck. I've used this as a user name just about everywhere for the last 9 or 10 years. Free bump!

Had some people back in high school thought I resimbled alittle bit of Jack Nicolson and Tom Cruise...so I just put the two together, thought it sounded cool and sounded like a comic book character.

Not much goes into a username for me. Having already changed mine twice I just pick a random word just to keep things fresh.

Once upon a time I was a member of a tactical assault team. During training we would do alot of climbing/rappeling. My team mates used to say that I climb like Spiderman. I addition, they though that I was a bit odd, or freaky. I have been Spydrfreak since.

Once upon a time in a magical kingdom called Dallas, TX, there lived a beautiful queen and her handsome king. They were happy, but were missing something in their lives, so they decided to have a little princess.

Oh, who am I kidding...there's no way to make up an interesting and dynamic story about my user name....Laurie L. Black. Am I creative or what??? :o)

Kinda lame really, but here goes.....

In my teenage and young adult life, I was an MTV addict. I watched the Real World religiously. There once was a girl on the show named Genesis and I thought to myself "Hey, what a cool name". Now being that my name is Jennifer and my maiden name was Jones, it's easy to say that it lacked any originality and forget about getting any kind of a screen name. Along comes Genesis, drop the "G" and add a "J" for Jen and there you have it.

Nothing religous about it and has absolutely nothing to do with the band. And that's that..... the genesis of jenesis.

It's UNCLEBRO not unclebro.

When I lived in England, I would talk to my sister in America and she would put her young kids on the phone.
Not feeling comfortable talking to little kids, I would just say "Yo Bro".
And so they starting calling me Uncle Bro.

The reason for all capitals is because when I first got a computer, I couldn't type very well and it was a pain using the shift key, so everything I did was all in capitals.
I now use a bit more etiquette in my typing, but still use the upper case name.

L-ai omorât pe Trãncãvici!
Falci care mushcã, ghearã rea
Crudul Volvor zboarã pe-aici
Frumoaznicul, Pãzea!!!

It's a poem in an anchient form of romanian, hardly understandable in the actual romanian. I like the sound of "frumoaznicul" because it combines 2 completely oposite words. "frumos" wich means "beautiful" and "groaznicul" wich means something ugly, awful. Something like beautyfulugly but it sounds much better in romanian. I whasn't planing to stay when I first signed, so that word whas the first that came in my mind.

As an intellectual property attorney (a.k.a. patent attorney), I'm able to obtain patents for you, hence the not very creative 'patents4u'. I work mostly with corporate clients, but I also help indepedent inventors on a fairly regular basis.

It's pretty self explanitory. Takeoff of quicksilver (I just like the way that sounds) Betwee the fact that I use a camera with 10X optical zoom with no image stabilization, and that I do a lot of animal and sport photography, I'm often using the fastest shutter that I can without becoming underexposed or grainy.

Well, I originally wanted to use AllMightyGodOfPhotography, but it had way too many letters. So, then I thought I’d shorten it to just God, but decided that might offend someone, perhaps even someone omnipotent. After that I tried out lots of different names, but finally decided on micknewton. It looked and sounded right to me. Mick, a term of endearment used by many to denote a person of Irish descent, and Newton for some old guy that liked to sit under apple trees. It rolls nicely off the tongue, especially if you wink and make a smootchie kissy sound after you say it. You should all try it some time. It drives women crazy!

Ecce Signum See it, in proof; Behold the proof!

"I am eight times thrust through the doublet, four through the hose; my buckler cut through and through; my sword hacked like a handsaw - ecce signum!" - Shakespeare: 1 Henry IV., ii. 4.

I chose Ecce Signum as an alias to my more commonly used name (AquariCam) after a rather nasty confrontation on a fish forum where I had to prove that my being banned from the forum was unjust (its not just photogs that go off on one) and it got one step from court!

I decided to use it again here as the camera never lies!

And for a bit of fun, a google on 'ecce signum' has me in 3rd and 4th place here at dpc and a google on 'AquariCam' shows me in 9 of the top 10 places, pipped by aquaricam.com and they aproached me to buy the domain :)

go google yourself, you may be suprised!

A few years back there was a series in the Dilbert comic where Dogbert had a plot to rule the world. He jumped on the pointy haired boss's desk and yelled "I'm a loud dog and I want a raise!"

In college several years back I worked as an assistant in a computer lab. I was busy moving around the room, absorbed into doing what I was doing and generally not paying much attention to the group of friends who were hanging out in the lab (they were actually working on projects, but talking and kidding around was going on than actual work). As I moved past, I half caught one say that they sure wished they knew why something was acting the way it was. I don't remember what it was now, but I granted his wish and threw the answer to him as I rushed past.

Chaos erupted! It appears the question he was asking was one he had been trying to find the answer to for quite some time, and had been causing him a bit to anxiety. I won't tell you exactly what he said, as he has probably the most foul mouthed individual I have ever met, but it was something to the effect of "You knew it! You're an encyclopedia! I'm going to call you Britannica from now on." and he and everyone else did from that point on. Well, except for that one week he demoted me to Webster for making a comment he considered stupid. It took a week before I redeemed myself. :D

I find it kind of ironic that one of the most obnoxiously mouthed individual I have ever met gave me the first nicknae that was usable in polite company.

This thread made me change my username!! I was timwatts (which is my name - very unoriginal), but now I'm vestanpance (vest and pants - get it!!)

As for where I originally got the name, I'm afraid I stole it:
//www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1854794779

I also use vestanpance on a few other sites.

Cheers,

vestan

Yes that's good - I can't begin to count the times I've typed 'ecce signum' and 'aqaricam' into Google only to be thoroughly disappointed at the results!

My name is Pink...Jon Pink

I am dull obviously. Although I have 3 alias names i use - Renhoek, Nemo and just my real name.

If I use the real name it's only on 'decent' sites. Why I don't know.
