I just got offered a photography job, a full day from the antenna man who came today to fix the aerial that fell down on my roof. He lives in the country and breeds rare birds, snakes and crocs and every photographer he's had come there leaves because they're scared.

He is in the process of having a website designed and he saw my makeshift studio set up and asked me if I was a photographer. I said no, he said are you any good at it though I said I could try so he offered me a job a full day taking pics of those animals in 4 - 5 weeks!

He wants me to photograph attacking snakes from behind a glass shield and some with no shield he says his pet croc wouldnt hurt anyone you could kiss it on the nose and he'd like pics of him playing with that too. He has some of the rarest parrotts in the world he has over 600 animals I said I'd give it a try, he said he'd pay for the day and my time in editing the pics.

Personally I would have done it just for the chance to get some pics of snakes attacking into the lens anyways lol

So here is my question how many of you would be willing to get that up close and personal with poisonous and venomous snakes and dangerous animals for pics paid or unpaid?

Congrats on the assignment! I'm one of those who'd be willing to take pictures of the snakes, too. Kinda like the critters. But I'd use a long lens... :-) Good luck, and let us know how it turns out!

What a cool assignment! Congrats!

(I'd be both keen and completely chicken, all at the same time).

I say watch a lot of National Geographic and find out what not to do around a snake ;-)

Seriously, I'm sure you can take some protective measures like wearing knee high boots etc, and the guy obviously knows what he's doing so you'll be safe. I say go for it.

I say, can you rent a 1d MarkII? 8fps sounds sweet for that job.

I know I'll be called a cynic for this, but I have to say it anyway.
The most dangerous part of this job may not be the snakes and rare/dangerous animals--it might be the antenna man. Be very careful if you accept this job. Take a friend. Make sure you're in control of your coming and going. There are a lot of really creepy people out there!

(There are also any number of perfectly harmless excentrics who are unfairly assumed to be creeps....but until you become and expert on telling the difference, don't take chances.)

I fully agree with KaDi...the antenna man sounds suspect to me, not the snakes...I would want to see all sorts of info on his set up and would never venture to his residence without full proof that this guy is legitimate. Can you check his reptile licence? Does he have some referneces?

He sounds suspect to me...

Yes! You're a pretty woman, overclover. You be very, very careful.

Definitely check his licenses out - I hope he's not one of those illegal rare animal dealers, too.

Please stay safe, and please take a friend (preferably one that's big, strong and male).

Addressing all safety concerns, I'd definitely be thrilled with the opportunity to photograph those critters. Although I tend to get depressed anytime I see wild animals confined, in the way that collectors sometimes keep them.

I think all the warnings you've received are right on the mark. It seems rather strange to me that someone who can purchase and maintain 600 exotic animals is repairing antennas. Nothing against that profession, but it doesn't jive with my sensibilities. Keeping that many animals seems more like a job than a hobby.

If he does turn out to be shady, please take great care; as he knows quite a bit about you, now. You might start by asking to speak to the other photographers (if they exist) and find out what really scared them away.

Please keep us posted!

LMAO yes I thought what kind of person asks someone that is a novice to do a job like this I was suspect at first but then again I know a lot of people would be scared to do it. I'll take protection!

and thanks for the replies ppl :D

A good friend of mine is a senior dectective in the southern states. (I'm assuming you're in the US?). If you like, I'll ask him if it's possible to run a security check thingie on him for you to see if he has any 'form'?

I don't know if he can do it or not; but no harm in asking, eh. PM me if you'd like me to ask him. Don't expect a reply from me for about 8 days, though, as I'm going away and won't be anywhere near a computer.

Better safe than sorry, as they say!
