LOL I just got a DNMC! Nothing else, just DNMC. Nice work on the podcast.

Hey btuck, as promised I got myself a dnmc as well. What great timing!

I'm currently working on how to record an interview over an internet connection so I can provide interviews in the next podcast. I ended up installing skype (a full duplex voice chat) and running a patch cord from the line out of that computer to the line in of my recording computer and it "half works" I can get great audio of the person I'm talking to but my voice is all muffled for some reason. Any technofiles out there with some tips on how I can easily interview someone over the internet and record the interview in mp3 format for the podcast?

Since there seems to be good interest in this podcast, I wonder what we have to do to get the DPC gods involved in a discussion on the matter. I'd like to reside the files on their server and maybe even get an rss feed link on the home page. Maybe they will be more interested when I clean up the quality of the show a bit more.

I look forward to hearing some more!

Get Langdon's phone number and do a DPC Phonecast, or we could get everyone to PM him in what would be called a DPC "Spamcast".

Good luck to you - I've seen requests from us mortals to get involved in an official or authorized capacity go down in flames. ...and it wasn't my torch. ;-)

Nice work Lee, was fun listening too it, gotta agree with Ken though about the sound effects and maybe some short music clips in the middle (maybe that´s not what podcast´s are about, have never heard of a "podcast" before now) so I dunno.

Anyway, if you ever need anyone to interview, I´m game.

Larus, I'd love to have you on for an interview. I'm currently trying to figure out exactly how to record an interview over the internt and I'm halfway there. I can record good audio coming in to skype but not my voice. I could always re-record my questions if I have too but I'd like to get it recording sound both ways. If you have Skype or have any favorite voice program and some time coming up, maybe we can set up an interview by this weekend so I can work it into the next podcast. Right now I'm wanting to interview recent contest winners (which you qualify) and or those who have multiple ribbons (which of course you qualify for as well). No one is exclude though!

I don't have much experience with recording setups but I just did a quick google search for recording interviews with skype and it brings up a bunch of results, including this one. Maybe something there would be helpful?

Thanks for the tip, mk. I did a google search yesterday on the same thing and came up with the patchcord idea and that didn't work out so well for me but it was close. It looks like I might have to purchase a cheap little recording program to do it. I'm surprised my podcast software wouldn't already have that ability built in.

Thanks again for the research for me!

Well Lee, you are going to have to go to idiot mode with me and this stuff, what software and all thas as I am no computer guru :)

All I can tell you I use a PC, I have a sound card with plugs for a microphone and have one of those so I don´t have hardware problems, I do not have a CLUE on what program to install.

Larus (and anyone willing to be interviewed): You can download a free Voice over the Internet program called Skype by going to www.skype.com and downloading the latest version 2.5. Skype is a small program that wont take up much hard drive space and is from a well known distributor and a trusted source. With Skype installed and your microphone plugged in you can initiate calls between friends. All you need is your friends username, in my case it is lee.jason.farrell. When you load skype it will suggest you set up your microphone by placing a fake call to their remote call assistant. It will initiate a call with a computer voice that asks you to speak into your microphone...wait a little bit and then it will play your voice back to you. If you hear your voice played back the mic is set up correctly and you're ready to add a new friend! Put in my name as listed above and I'll be added to your friends list. Then when you see me online (I think my name will appear grey if I'm offline or green if I'm online (or something like that) you simply click on my name and hit the red phone looking icon to start a call. The "phone" will ring on my computer and I'll pickup and say hello. At that point we are rockin' and rollin'. If you're willing to do this Larus let me know so I can prepare some interview questions for you. I'll be available every evening between 4:30pm PST and 9pm PST and also a lot on the weekend. If anyone else wants to follow these instructions and set up an interview please do so. Again, just let me know ahead of time that you will be contacting me so I can prepare some questions specific for you!

Yay! Idiot proof instructions, I need that :) I´ll install this program tonight when I get home from work and check it out but this sounds doable, start making questions buddy!

Outstanding! I'll work up questions. I've never conducted an interview before for a podcast so I plan to ask you more questions then may actually make it into the podcast and just edit it down to the best moments. How much time can you give me for the interview? Twenty minutes? A half hour? Or could you give me an hour? For those who think that's far too long, remember....the actual podcast will be edited! LOL I just need to have an idea of how many questions I can ask you without you getting bored and wanting to run for the hills. I really appreciate it!

Larus, it looks like Iceland is about 7 hours later than I am here so when I'm getting off of work you're sitting around midnight or 1 in the morning. I suppose we'll have to shoot for a weekend interview. LOL

Just letting everyone know that I now have the ability to conduct interviews and record them for podcasting episodes in the future. Now it's time to start setting up an interview schedule. I think I've got Larus on top for episode two and I've had requests to get Joey Lawrence and Rikki on as well. I'd love to get these two on and will try to contact them through the DPC profiles if they provide email addresses. Is there anyone else that you'd like to see interviewed? Can you give me questions that you'd like to see asked and I'll try to work them in?

Looking forward to producing episode 2 of the unofficial DPC podcast!

Hehe, well I am posting this now at 11:17 pm so I am at server time +4 hours, guess the weekend must be the plan. Am real busy on saturday but perhaps sunday? Just PM me and we´ll figure something out, think I could spare about half an hour or so.

Anyway, installed this skype thing and tested it out, worked like a charm and added you to my contact list so that should take care of that.

I'd be happy to be interviewed via Skype if anyone would be interested in listening :P

why does it feel like i'm going to be on the Larry King Show? LOL!
06/22/2006 08:57:14 PM · #69
Kanador, I'd be glad to have you on the show. If you have skype loaded just add lee.jason.farrell and give me a call when you see me online. I'll add you to the list of interviews coming up...maybe episode 3?

Rikki...when can I get you on the show? LOL... I think people are really going to enjoy hearing intereviews with some of the top photographers on the site. Load up skype and add me to your friends and give me a call when you see me online. We'll set up an interview time and get it done!
