You too, huh... some people believe a photo should "look like a 30-second photo". What the hell ever that means. I don't bitch about comments much, but I just got a particularly stupid one minutes ago.

I agree that photos don't need to look like 30sec photos, but they still need to be good photos, and a lot of the photos I've voted on so far don't seem to have used the long exposure to improve their photo

I agree with dr_timbo. I scored photos that used the 30sec exposure time to enhance the photo much higher than photos that look like normally exposed photos. I left comments to that effect for some peoples photos.

I think they should change the voting system. have 3 ribbon choices for each photo. the photo with the largest amount of highest ranking ribbons wins. the 1-10 is fair but only if everyone uses it the same format while voting...

Voting based on assumption is why GWB is in the oval office.

I think everyone should vote fair and let the website take care of the rulebreakers.

my photo is doing ok so far. I had higher expectations but I always do til I see some of the other photos.

But i am on pace to get my all time highest rank.

My first entry. I only learned how to do a 30 second exposure for this challenge and score 3.8. So start at the bottom and maybe in a year I can reach a 5.

LOL

voters need to have faith and let the validations take care of the rest. mine was taken in broad daylight at f/32 with a circular polarizer and at iso 100. there are ways to make it easy to have long exposures in daylight. altough mine looks like a long exposure.

After the challenge, look at the other photos and see what they did to make it successful. Use this tip and recreate the shot yourself. Practice on it and soon before you know it, you and your camera will be comfortable together ;)

Don't do it little...
I just had a look at your portfolio. You've got some surfing shots in there that are really cool. They seem full of energy. I even get the sense from them that you enjoyed shooting them.

Shoot more of those for the challenges (shots that let you have fun while shooting them), instead of trying hard for the elaborate set-up, artistic minimalism or abstract angles (you can end up frustrating yourself like that, and not enjoying the whole process).

As long as you're enjoying the shooting, the mediocre scores won't matter as much, and in time that sense of enjoyment will filter through to your pics, and the voters will feel it too. Then the scores will come...

I haven't been active on DPC very long, so I don't claim to be an expert at it, but I've studied the portfolios of all the multiple ribbon winners, and the one thing they all have in common is that you can sense that they really get a kick out of pressing that shutter release. The results of the challenges are secondary - just icing on the top.

Forgive me for getting a little deep with this post... It's late on a Friday night here, and I've already had quite a few beers...

I didn't see what you did, was busy editing. What did you say you have a PB too, thus putting me in a non-blue? I proably would've bit. Let's go weekend, get going.

Heheheheh, how bout some crackers? I mean,
you're joking right? You've been here since early May and have got in the top fifty with a score of almost 6, and you don't think you're doing good?
How long have you been a photographer? Heck I've been playing with it for decades and I suspect my first challenge will be below 5. Buck it up! You're gonna do good!

Dang! My last 8 votes have averaged 8.5! And my average since I went to bed last night is a 7.0. I like today. I hope tomorrow-Tuesday are just as nice.

You can request to have your photo validated, and you wouldn't have had to wait so long......
Or would that be like playing with yourself.....

:)
