I recently bought a Minolta Maxxum 5D digital reflex. For many years, I used a Minolta SRT101 and a Mamaya-Sekor DTL500. The Mamaya took the so-called Universal Screw Mount lenses.
I was able to buy a converter for the screw mount lenses - a Vivitar 135, a Quanteray 70-200 and a Mamaya 50. It seemed to make more sense to try to use the old lenses than spend a bundle on new ones. I like the 18-70 that came with the camera, but it is clearly limited.
I use these lenses in manual mode, setting the lens and shutter by lightmeter and viewing the playback of the first shot or two. This works fairly well - after years of manually focussing and setting these lenses it's not a big hardship (but no match-needle built in meter).
My main problems are with DP Challenge. None of these lenses are listed on the database, so I can't add them to my profile. More to the point, I can't find a way to list the 135 on my current entry to Bokeh II. Also, since the lens is not electrically connected to the camera, the lens opening defaults to f/1.0 on the EXIF data (not the f/3.5 actually used).
I'm pretty sure I can't do anything about the EXIF data, certainly not on the shots already taken. Is there a way to list a lens not in the database on my profile? Is there a way to list a lens not on my profile or in the data base on the submission? And, if asked for the EXIF data, how do I square the F/1.0 indicated with the actual f/3.5 used in the shot?

the last one i can't answer, only SC can.
I have the vivitar 135 f 2.8 as well - neat lens for $20! Not good for action though LOL. all manual and such.
You don't have to list the lens used or all your lenses (or any lenses) in your profile.

that lens w/ extension tubes

i had some other pics with this lens but i guess i took them offline. Haven't used it in over a year.

I think the main concern with EXIF data is the date/time stamp and camera type. You can always use the 'Contact' link from the site to get a firm answer.

As for the lens: you can get lens listed to the database. Use the same 'Contact' link. I believe there is a choice for 'Other' under lens type. You'll need to add it in your account preference area.

Smile and keep having fun!

To give a definitive answer on the EXIF, the reporting of f/1.0 (or f/0.0 in the case of Canon DSLRs) is not something we are concerned with. We recognize that folks do shoot with older manual lenses, and in any case it has no impact on challenge validity.
It is good if you specify the aperture in your details so others can learn from it.
To get a lens added to the database, go to Help>Contact and check the "DPChallenge - Equipment Addition/Change" radio button, and enter the request, including the description(s) of the lens(es) you wish to have added. We'll take it from there!
