I am so addicted to that stooopid "Update Stats" button. Sometimes I think I need professional help to get away from it :-) Whenever I go out and come back home the first thing I always do is run to the computer and push that button.

Wouldn't it be interesting to have a statistic to see which DPC'er pushes that button the most each day, I am sure I'd be way up there amongst the top pushers :-)

Anyway, starting from next Monday I'm only going to push it a maximum of 10 times a day. It's a promise :-) Or maybe the following Monday?

Lucky for us non-colored shirt people we have to wait every hour. So that means only 24 pushes a day. lol.

I think I'd be too embarrased to see what such a button would show. I mean, how much can a score change in 1/2 minute? (Sometimes a whole bit buch, my bad voice tells me.) Now on top of being addicted to pushing the update button, I have conversations about it with myself!

I created a separate desktop for when I "work" rather than "play" at the computer, just so I wouldn't constantly be checking scores and comments. But it hasn't worked so far, as I can access DPC through the net rather than the shortcut. I have an Excel sheet set up to track scores and potential outcomes (weird, eh?). It doesn't do much of anything really.

Fortunately for me, my Olympus has developed a problem and is in repairs, so I decided to sit out a couple challenges and "be cured of my addiction" (I hope).

I think we should have shorter voting time 2-3 days ,so Gary can go sleep a little!

It doesn't work Ursula - when I came back off tour I thought I'd be cured of the need to spend all day scoping around the site or taking photos.

And that was six weeks.

How annoying to have your camera out of action just after winning another ribbon :-(

Yup, I work at home too, not good. I push that stupid button every 2 minutes or so. It's really ridiculous! I get all happy because my score went up .003, then cry if it goes down .001. Now that the kids are in school, I have even fewer distractions. I need help!!

so inbetween pushing that button you come here and talk about pushing it?

isnt there a 12 step program for that kind of thing?

I've broken free from the dreaded update button o/c (Obsessive Compulsive) ritual.

Here's how I did it. I entered a couple of sub par entries. That killed my desire to update my stats.

Is there anyone who has the strength of mind to not display their current score on their homepage?

That's right! You can disable the "show scores and comments" option! But then we'd all be disabling and enabling every minute or so, and then we'd have to track how many times we enable and disable, and we'd have even more useless stats.

When you are a none colored shirt like me you only get updates on the hour, but members get a button they can push like maniacs all day!

Wich as you can see can lead to a serios addiction that heroin addicts blush to hear about

Ha ha Nasti, look who's talking! And what about you? Whenever we get home from somewhere it's always a race to the computer to see who can update first :-)

I had no idea there were people out there that have the patience to wait 30 seconds before checking again! You are my hero!

[Taking a bow] "Thank you, thank you! I am known for my self-control!"

[Chorus breaks in] "Yeah, sure ..."

After entering 68 challenges in a row, I took a self-imposed summer vacation from DPC. This was because I was busy and also to refresh the batteries. Since returning, I am still as addicted as ever with a sore mouse finger from refreshing and getting up in the middle of the night to shoot an idea.

The refresh part may have worked though as my first five challenges since returning have all scored over 5.77 and 3 of 5 are well into the six range!

BTW, sorry about the repairs, I haven't had to go through that yet, knock on wood.

One cure for this addiction is ANOTHER addiction :). GO to the TrekEarth site, post a pic, and see your list of picture comments grow! It isn't only exciting to see reactions quickly, it's also informative -the site has a very *gentle* workshop gang that DOES help more than pure descriptions ever will (ok, I'm eating my words from another thread regarding this). For each foto you submit, there is an option to authorize critiquers to post their versions of your submission alongside the original in a workshop forum. Really great!
