We all know what Photoshop and post processing can do to a picture so let's see some before and after portraits. Shows an out of the camera portrait followed by the post processed version! I'll go first.

I love this one. Great job. I'm going to show my editing ignorance...what's gimp and picasa?

The GIMP is a *free* photo editing program, similar to Photoshop, but with not quite all of PS's options. GIMP.org

Picasa I'm not very familiar with as I have just gotten it. It is a photo-organizing program that has a few editing actions, some of which are not present in the GIMP (most notably the ability to change the 'temperature' of the light in the photo). It seems to be a really good program, though it does have some limitations. Picasa.google.com

Hope this helps!
Sara

PS - and thank you!

I notice that most of the "befores" that have been shot with a dslr really don't look like that great of pictures (no offense to anyone at all, the following will explain) but the edited ones look amazing, like really. How is it that something that looks oof and dull be made so awesome, and are all picture that are taken with a dslr like that?

Because post processing is needed to make things look nicer than they do in real life. =P
06/17/2006 08:27:46 PM · #23
For simplicity's sake, the images right out of the camera on a DSLR are made to record the most amount of information that was there...so they are not applying as much processing as most point and shoot cameras do...because of that, they require much more post processing than the point and shoot counterparts... Although there are settings that you can adjust or fine tune to get it just how you want it out of the camera, but then some of your freedom is taken away.
