Hello All,

Need some help with a lense I just brought today. A sigma canon ef 100-300mm, using it with my Canon Digital Rebel 300, I took one shot and no problem, everything after that I get an error 99. No matter what the lighting does anyone know if this lense is compatible with the Rebel if so what the problem could be. Thanks in advance for you assistance.

Was it a used lens, some of the older sigmas need rechipped.
Is your camera fine with other lenses?

Sometimes Error 99 means a problem in the lens's connection to the camera. Try taking the lens off, removing your camera's battery briefly, and then putting the lens back on and make sure it is seated firmly. If that doesn't solve the problem try cleaning the contacts on the lens and on the camera's mount. I use cotton swabs and rubbing alcohol.

yes it was a used lense, and my camera is fine with my other lenses. It took 1 photo with this lense but nothing after that. So how expensive is it to rechip

Try cleaning the contacts first. Second, call Sigma. If it's not an older lens, they should be able to rechip it. In any case, they can tell you if that is potentially the problem. Third, contact the seller and let them know it is not working. I'd contact the seller in parallel with the other activities.

Thanks guys, I'll try that as soon as I get home from work. I bought it from a camera store here so I have to 90 day warranty.
