Is this supposed to be cute? I thought we were all adults here?

Yes it is cute isn't it?

Moderators feel free to close this thread, it has been hijacked by adults that are less mature than the 8 year old girl pictured in the photo.

Back to the photo and I know nothing about martial arts.

I prefer the less white background. Trying to get it to go all white is severely blowing highlights in the uniform, especially on the arm furthest away from the viewer.

Also, it looks like the point of critical focus may be the hand closest to the camera rather than the face itself (but that is kinda hard to tell at this image size).

I'm not fond of the shadow across the face, but it doesn't look like you've lost any detail in the shadow and can be resuced via dodging.

Overall, I suggest a less contrasty compromise between the edit and the original. White backgrounds don't have to be totally blown to look good.

Good grief! I think this is the worst I've ever seen things get around here!

Anyway, I like the less white background too. I don't think the motion blur is that bad, and her face is sharp. Maybe the people talking about soft focus have monitor/glasses issues?

they may have monitor issues...i viewed this at work and it was much softer than on my computer at home.

I don't know why people like the ugly grey background...i hated that...it took me forever to fix it though and make it completely white.

No, no issues. The face did seem a bit soft to me, certainly not tack-sharp. Not that that was the desired outcome.

Not that I don't like white backgrounds, but I'm not fond of what it is doing to the rest of the photo. It's becoming a bit over-contrasty. I think a compromise between the two would work better than the high contrast look you have now.

I'll tone it down a little and then compare...maybe you're right.
