All teams/users have been randomly selected. You can find out your team by visiting the tables page here (You might need to hit refresh once the page has loaded to get latest standings)
Upcoming fixtures can be found here
I'll update the tables page every evening, and will post the upcoming fixtures and the final scores on this thread.

To make things slightly more interesting
The loser of a match has to leave a comment on one of their victors photographs.
If a match is a draw, then a photo comment must be exchanged by each user who are facing each other in that match.
The winner of the world cup will have a comment/critique left by all other countries/usernames that took part in the competition.
How does something like this sound to generate a few comments? Obviously it's not to be taken too seriously, please don't feel you HAVE TO leave comments on a winning users photographs. For those with no photographs in their portfolio/profile yet (There only seems to be one user) we'll just have to give them an IOU :)-

I am a bit slow but what is this challenge/contest/sweepstakes about?

It's a little like a lottery Gunnsi. Your username will be written on a piece of paper and will get placed into a hat with everybody elses who chooses to take part. There will also be a hat that contains the names of all this years world cup teams. A username is randomly picked out, then a team is randomly drawn out for that username. Usernames teams will then face each other and We then get to see who goes on to become the 2006 dpc non-prize sweepstake world cup winner

It's all just a little fun, nothing to be taken too seriously Although I'm looking forward to Slippy getting knocked out on his arse in the early stages

So basically, this has nothing todo with photography, but instead, we are each basically assigned a World Cup Team. We cheer for this team and then we will be pitted up against another DPCer who "is" that team. Like I could be drawn as Germany and Konador as Costa Rica (first match tomorrow). And then we shall see from there. Is that right?

Should we commit to putting a couple of dollars or equivalent into a 'virtual pot' and everybody pays that to charity except the eventual winner? |

Yeah, something like that Cutter. Obviously its all based upon luck and nothing more. As for cheering for the team you get chosen, well, that is entirely upto you. Just make sure you are in a safe environment whilst doing so ;)
front_element - That's what I originally would have liked to do. But with everybody not having paypal, credit cards, living in different countries and such I thought it might prove to be a little difficult, Especially with the World cup only being tomorrow. Perhaps the winner gets to recieve a critique/comment on one of their photographs from the losers or something *Shrugs shoulders* |
