Hi i've been offered a Canon EF 70-200mm F2.8L USM (not IS) for £500 ($950)
is this a good price? It comes with a 30 day warranty, canon tripod foot and
canon soft carry case.

I need to confirm ASAP as to whether I will buy this lens or not, any help would be
hugely appreciated.

$950 is only a little over 10% off what you can get it for new (with Canon's rebate). In my opinion, the price is a little high. $875 or so would seem more reasonable for a used lens.

But that's just my opinion.

edit to say ... if it's new, yes it's a great price.

The UK price is higher than the dollar equivalent of the US price. Expect to pay £750 on eBay for that lens new, and not much less if nearly new, and up to £1,200 in the shops!

£500 is an excellent price - so good, I would double check that it is not a scam and that the lens is in full working order. Double check that this is the f2.8, not the f4.

If it's in perfect shape, that's not a great deal, but is a fair price. They usually fetch within 10% of new if they are in "like new" condition.

Edit: Yep, it's a much better price in the UK!

I would save your money and wait to get the IS version. I cheeped out and got the non IS version for budget reasons and I'm wishing I didn't. It is an awesome lens, but the IS version is a lens you'll never need to upgrade.

I would get it in the knowledge that you can EBay it for a profit if/when you are ready to upgrade!
