| Looks like I will be visiting New York and I'll have about three days travel free days. What are the must see spots? |

Backstreets or frontstreets?
Where's you staying?
Downtown financial district up through Chinatown provides interest and grandeur depending on which street you turn up or down. Brooklyn Bridge is worth walking over. Staten Island Ferry is a whole lot more interesting than those tourist boats to Liberty etc. Liberty etc are full of security these days and that takes time. No tripods in such places.
Downtown westside and up the river has a lot of good walking and various views these days and you can swing round to the Village etc.

This is an unknown. I believe it's somewhere in Midtown but I haven't been told for sure and I'm not certain where are all these neighborhoods are that have been mentioned so far. I'll have to get a map out to make sense of it all.

Others have advised not taking a tripod at all. Agree? I'm thinking of skipping it on this trip due to travel and time constraints.

walking across the brooklyn bridge is very nice (i do it all the time), then there is one of my favorite parks beneath the brooklyn bridge (sits right between the brooklyn and manhattan bridge).
The pier on the brooklyn side beneath the brooklyn bridge they dont bother you with tripods at all. Also a short walk from there is a place called the brooklyn promenades where you can walk and use your tripod there you get great shots of the skyline also.
Of course you cant miss central park, also a visit to the top of rockeffeller center is nice also, so much better than the empire state building
walking along the west side is nice also, (starting from lower manhattan I suggest)

If you're in midtown then all of the items I mentioned above are downtown - south. You can walk it down 5th Ave. or take a subway to, say, Wall St. and walk from there. A map would help. No tripod, not worth it.
The park under the bridge is worthy...
On the westside, Upper Westside, you can take Riverside Park up to 110 and then cut over the Central Park and back down. Coney Island is fun - but really depends on getting out there early (or late) before the high sun burns everything to reflections.
Very humid here at the moment. About 85 or so.
Midtown has Empire State and etc. Nice very foggy weather today and some good clouds recently but the sky is abismally washed out for the last two weeks or so since summer weather has arrived. |
