Yup mk but there were also plenty of assumptions in her entry as well. One even said that if she convinced her otherwise she'd change her score. A low score based on an assumption rather than the quality of the image? I never thought that happened around here. (teehee)

I hope you don't mind if I say something here. Kita has her own crazy ideas(I have no idea where she gets that trait from!!! LOL!), and she executes the setups herself. Even my poor accountant has had to do some weird posing for her when he visits. She does her own processing, of which there are many witnesses, and uploads them herself. She keeps a handwritten record in a little excercise book of each photo she uploads. A trick that I taught her a long time ago. And I will tell you something that I find quite amazing. She doesn't care about the scores...but she gets excited over comments. And even more ecstatic over favourites. After a challenge finishes she likes to go into the results and check out the lowest scorers. She feels sad for them and often leaves them a comment to 'make them smile' as she puts it. She reads the DQ entries to find out what they did to be DQ'ed.

She used to work on my computer but since I have upgraded she stays on the computer she shares with her father. We(her father and I) constantly check any comments that come in on her images in case they are inappropriate as we are used to people raising eyebrows over her photographic abilities.

Last year, she entered 11 photos in the local show....she took 8 firsts, 3 seconds, Reserve Champion and Grand Champion. They are fighting to jump her up past the Novice and into the Open section. She was 8.

We saw that comment about proving her age. We were disgusted. Would that person really expect an adult to prove they had taken an image that has the look of a childs photograph....? I doubt it. We also felt the image should be judged on face value...not require some bantering behind the scenes to alter the vote. That is why we didn't contact that person and take it further. We left it as it was............pointless in the fact.

So for people to question her age and ability on here is nothing out of the norm for us. We are used to it and we accept that that is how it will be with her. We are very proud of her and really appreciate all the wonderful support from all the people who do accept her for the way she is. Crazy, very advanced, happy, loving...but most importantly...9 years old.

Her mum....Judi!

I forgot to add...this photo is being entered this weekend in the local show for this yearl....we know it will raise some eyebrows also...but cross your fingers for her everyone....!

just another one as I'm looking thru them all- This image is VERY underrated. No doubt about it in my mind.

PS- That's ok Judi, I had someone tell me mine wasn't a self-portrait too!!! But lets just say I didn't have as much self restraint as you! :0P

I wouldn't really call these under-rated. They all scored 6.4x or above. They all had 25+ comments and placed in the top 35. That's pretty good if you ask me.

True...but allow us the privilege of drooling for a moment, regardless of scores. ;)

Honey, real girl talk would shock any man. The difference between us and you is that we generally have the good sense to keep it out of male earshot and not repeat the conversation to our boyfriends.

*nodding* this is ssssoooo true! I'm not a prude but my eyebrows have even arched a few times during some of these conversations! Especially if you have ever been to a 'dirty ladies party', lwith ots of women, and liquor! :)

I few I liked that didn't finish in top 50:

To be honest, when I first saw Kita's photo I wasn't sure about whether it was a selfportrait or not. Perhaps I just couldn't believe that such a young girl was able to make such a good portrait. I didn't give her a lower score for that by the way. She definetely should've ended up higher.

These are some of which I feel they're underrated:

Sounds like you have a special little girl there Judi. Not only in talent (which she obviously has plenty of) but also in compassion; which is getting harder to find these days. She sounds like a perfect candidate for my favorites list. Can't wait to see more of her work!

Cheers - Phil

Just wondering why? it seems it needs a bump in contrast as the levels look a bit off...

edit to add: Jen's outtake IMHO is better than this one. A tighter crop on that one and that would be a GREAT image ;)

It has nothing to do with the technicals of the picture, Rikki.

had Jen been able to replicate this one from the SP challenge, I believe she'd have been in the top ten.

Yes. P-ness is right. I agree with that shot. I understand that its not all about the technicals that people liked but given the voters have been picky about sharpness and all other technical aspects of an entry, this scored well IMHO.

Agreed. the first comment I made when I was voting was that i thought she'd missed the blacks. then i gave her hell for not calibrating her monitor :)

i think it landed about where it should have in the voting, for whatever my opinon's worth ;)
