Hello, I've tried advertising on Craigslist with no luck. I'm looking for someone in Northern CA that would allow me to be a second shooter at some weddings. (I live about an hour East of the Bay area but would travel 1-1/2 hours or so)

I have all the necessary equipment and just need to either be someones assistant or second shooter. I am doing my SIL's wedding in December and would like more hands on experience before I take on such an important day as the sole shooter. I shot a couple weddings for friends when I was still shooting film, but nothing that I would consider "experience".

Does anyone have any suggestions of a good way to find someone that would allow me to do so or does anyone know anyone in this area?

I'm most interested in learning posing for some traditional shots and just the whole process, lighting and troubleshooting stuff. I do ok with candids, just would want to be sure I learn all the "have to get" moments too.

You might want to post on Fred Miranda's wedding forum too.

I went to wedding conventions, brought my portfolio, went booth to booth, introduced myself and showed my portfolio until someone said ok,

i ended up hooking up with www.havardphotography.com they shoot over 400 weddings a year, i have shot 9 weddings in the past 11 weeks,
its a great way to start, try that,

Hmmm, you mean I'm going to have to actually compile a portfolio, lol.

Ok, I can try that. So far I get business word of mouth/referrals and haven't had to compile anything all in one place, other than a photosite gallery. Half way through making a website now though.

Thanks for the suggestion Troy and congratulations on the upcoming wedding of your own.
