I have my entry in, but it's nothing spectacular. I have another idea that I'm going to shoot for this evening, hopefully it'll work out and I won't eat s*** too bad trying it :)

i mean for ex. if you have a pic of a rose you turn is B&w and all you have is the color of the rose in color and then to touch up you use the color from the actual color picture to touch up the B&w pic...... you follow?

Does this rule out using the Liquify Filter to alter the mouth to make the lips appear slightly more closed?

Also, does it rule out using the brush to draw in a tear that didn't get caught in this particular shot?

Forgive me if these questions seem to have obvious answers... it's just that I've not submitted into a challenge before and I'm not really familiar with all the details.

Thanks for any advice...

You wouldn't be able to draw in a tear - maybe if you caught a couple of tears you could add one, but adding one where there were none smacks of major element imo.

Liquify should be ok done in small amounts, but there have been DQs before for excess liquify - it all depends if its merely enhancing/diminshing a feature slightly, or making a big thing of it

I think I'm right in those two...maybe someone else could back me up - don't want to give you wrong advice

I'm not the SC member, but here are my thoughts:

With advanced editing, you can alter things, but be sure to not change the looks dramatically. This is probably OK, people dodge the eyes in portraits all the time to make them pop out more. I don't think that making the lips appear more closed is going to be an issue.

This is a major element. If a tear is on the shoulder, then not, but if that tear is going to change the mood of the photo, i.e. from a normal photo you add emotions (sadness, happines, whatever) by drawing on it, it is guaranteed to be a DQ.

The same as happened not to long ago for one who submitted a 1/2s exposure in a 2s exposure challenge. He did not get DQed but he received a lot of comments afterwards.

I would think that most are holding you to your honor that since it is a self portrait challenge, that it will be a self portrait. However, just as with the wildlife challenge and it being in their "natural" environment, I expect there will also be some variations here as there was in that challenge. Therefore, if no one knows the difference of if it is actually you or not, I guess it won't effect the voting. However, afterwards, especially if it wins, I would expect a lot of flack for not following the "spirit of the challenge".

Right, and I got totally SLAMMED for my Singled Out entry to. It was a total bloodbath cause I used advanced editing to create my dof on the person, and I wasn't even CLOSE to a winning entry! LOL....but that was mostly because I was too vocal in forums about the use of advanced editing for point and shoots that couldn't create the shallow dof needed. I used a point and shoot at the time.

BUT, I know one thing for sure this time around, and that is if there is ONE DOG OR CAT or animal in this challenge, along with flowers and plantlife, I hope they were intelligent enough to do the camera settings and work the remote. :)

I am, in point of fact, a llama. Please vote accordingly when you see my mug in the challenge.

I'm in. Finally! It took me 4 ideas and 3 days to get my final idea. It was harder than I thought. I guess those 30 days were just too much :S .

I shot, entered, felt good. Shot again, felt better so re-submitted. Attended a class that inspired me like nobody's business. Shot again.... now... I'm over the moon. :D

@Wazz: That's sweet! I'm not really satisfied about it, it's not a very creative one. For the first time I tried to act normal lol.

Are you in too?

You know, I am glad we did the 30 day exercise. I tossed one in and know that had I not participated I probably would not have entered or had a shot that I was satisfied with.

I love mine. My friends have been raving about it like no other photo I've ever shot, and one called it "very Annie Leibovitz". Yeah right, if only! But I do like it quite a lot. I'm looking forward to seeing how these go.

Soooo, who is gonna take a ribbon with a portrait of someone other than themselves?
05/18/2006 01:19:00 PM · #149
I'm in... Whew! 3 days and 500+ shots later... ROFL ;-P

It's funny - I don't really care how it does, I just want to be able to upload all of my outtakes!

EDIT: Okay, okay... I DO care how it scores, but I'm really happy with it, so that matters much less to me this time - HONEST!

Heh... mine took me two days and 184 shots, and I thought that was bad!
