Can I take pictures in a dark room during the day and call them night shots because they are in the dark? Thanks for the answer.

IMO as long as it looks like it was taken at night the better. If you can tell it was taken during the day and not night you will get DNMC votes. But if they can't tell IMO who cares.

What about a shot in broad daylight with the title caption saying "it's night somewhere!" :P

Why not just shoot at night? Doesn't seem too difficult.

Like what jent said however voters are probably wanting to see outdoor shots so you may be limiting yourself.

Challenge Details: Take your best photograph after the sun goes down.

However - you won't be disqualified for not meeting the above description.

On the other hand if the photo doesn't look like it was taken at night you will probably be penalised by the voters...

Personally - I wouldn't find a ribbon satisfying if I hadn't met the challenge criteria but not everyone agrees on that!

My photoclub had a "Night" themed compeition a few months back. The theme is "Night" not "Dark". "Night" implies visual cues that the picture was taken at night. If you took a picture of a statue at night and did a long exposure so that it looked like it was day time, it is not goign to give you any visual clues that it was at night.

Never know what average voter will think though.

s far as I'm concerned, after-hours interiors (bars, concerts, empty diners at 1 AM, whatever, fulfill this challenge. That is not what I plan on entering, for the record. But I will look favorably upon appropriate scenes shot indoors. I want a sense of "night", that's what I want.

Robt.

Night photography is one of my favorite kinds of photography to do. Not that I'm good at it or anything, but I'm working on the camera techniques and hoping the composition stuff will get easier, or I'll get lucky a couple times.

Right clik the image, clik to properties, and then summary. You will find all details of the picture.Even the time at which you have taken the picture is noted. This time is time of your country.
By the way, is there any problem to take the picture at night.

Thanks for all the answers. I will take something at night. I could reshoot the lights inside during evening hours. Not sure I will. Kind of "been there, done that" about redoing it. All that you say makes sense. Ann

"Challenge Details: Take your best photograph after the sun goes down."

Is this something devised to disadvantage Icelandic photographers?
