I've looked at a few and as far as software/usability/customizability goes I like blurb and Aperture (on Mac) the best. Aperture 3 has some neat things you can add like travel maps and location marking.

I haven't tried the new MyPublisher software yet. The old software, as far as I could tell didn't allow much in the way of changes to page layout.

I hate all the custom software. I prefer to do my layout in FotoFusion, much like the author did. I find the options offered by the other software is too limiting.

Blurb allows you to start from a blank page and do what you want. Also, working from Aperture gives you unlimited customization as well.

I've done books in both Blurb and Aperture and found them to be very easy to work with and with the unlimited possibilities can't see the need for another piece of software. As Fotofusion is PC only then it's a non-starter anyway for mac users.

ETA. Thanks for the link

I ordered a book from picaboo, and it was passable, but the same price as really nice books from other companies. I was disappointed.

personally i like my publisher. i haven't made any professional books, only made some for myself and family, the quality is excellent.

i stared using them after popular photography rated them them the best quality next to Kodak. Kodak was slightly higher in quality but the software to create got low mark sand i concurred after trying it.

I have many of the mypublisher.com books. I love them.

I've made three books through AdoramaPix and they all came out great. The cool thing with their books is the pages lay flat so there is no seam to worry about. Great prices too.

ETA..that I can't spell!

One of my Blurb books arrives tomorrow, and the next will arrive in a couple more days. I placed two orders with different paper to compare before placing my full order. I found the software very easy to use and flexible. I'll update when I have received both orders.

Well I think this thread was awakened by a print service spammer (post removed).

But while we're talking about it, I'll put in a vote for Blurb. I really do like their software, their prices, and the results I've seen. I've used it for theatrical shows I've shot, and everyone whose seen the books (or bought them) loves them.

I do the little 7" square books, softcover. They're small, but you get a lot of photos in for very little money!

Neil, I do apologize if my reply came out as spammy, i'm certainly not affiliated with the company mentioned in my reply. Just because I was satisfied with their service does not mean I'm looking to transform this thread into an infomercial. I'm not mentioning the company again, but my point was that you should definitely try working with smaller companies as well, you might be surprised at the quality of their products and their customer service.
I apologize again and thank you for allowing to express my opinion this time.

I have used Shutterfly, Picaboo and Blurb. For books Blurb is my favorite. For calendars and cards I always use Shutterfly. Currently making a book now through Blurb. I like the fact you download their book making software and can work on it at home with out constantly uploading photos to their site.

I spent the time based on these posts to try Blurb and I'm surprised anyone could recommend them. I never got as far as printing a book because, after I downloaded their software and spent the time on an album, I found there's an almost -25% SURCHARGE- if you don't want THEIR ADS in your book! Oh, I'm sorry, I don't mean 'remove their ad', I mean pay extra for a 'custom logo' which just happens to be blank.

Blurb is apparently seriously confused. I'm sorry, this is -my- book that I'm looking to print, and that I'm paying to have printed. Years of work, most of which was done long before Blurb existed. NO Blurb, you can't run your AD in my product. What an awful printer!

I have several books done by MyPublisher.com. I have been extremely pleased with all of them.

I do pay attention to their "red box" they surround photos that are not publish-quality and correct them, or replace them.

Not arguing with you that the cost to remove their logo is quite high, but the idea of the custom logo is so you can upload your own logo and make the branding fit with your own. That's what you are paying the surcharge for.

I'd be interested to see if you can find an alternative on demand book printer who doesn't include their own branding logo somewhere, or one who doesn't charge for removing it.

(The only one I've found so far is Apple, but they have other limitations.)

I've just got the large photo book from
Apple through aperture and it's great double page spreads etc lovely prints and a nice book but not cheap £56 for 40 pages??

Used photo box as they are big here for a little book and it looks cheap in comparison the only thing with apple is the price

CEWE Photobook by Jessops is excellent. I believe other companies also do the CEWE Photobooks. I have had photobooks made using this one for the last 4 years and have been very pleased with the results.

I am trying a new one called Albelli this year as it got the number one position in a top 5 photobooks by the Gadget Show. I have not received the book yet but I did have some cards made by them which were absolutely fantastic.

Mixbook and Picaboo produce very nice results. Mixbook is an online book editing program (nothing to download) and allows full customization. Picaboo has their own software which you have to download. It is also fully customizable. I have a book from each. I had a groupon for each so had to check the quality with a small number of images.

I have used Shutterfly and Blurb. For making a photobook I mostly used Blurb which is my favorite. Currently I am making one photobook through Blurb. The Mixbook and Picaboo are also give good result. So try for it.
