Hi, everyone. I'm going on a cruise that will make a stop one morning in Key West... I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of places I can go to get some cool pictures. I don't have a lot of time to wander the whole island, so if anyone can give some suggestions, I'd appreciate it. :) Thanks in advance.

Aweeeeeeee Key West is one of my favorite locations in the US! I've been many times and never tire of it. If you only have a few hours, I would suggest you get a moped right off the boat and then you can tour the whole island easily in a few hours. Absolute must is Duvall street, but hard to avoid that one... See the Hemmingway house and take the tour if you have time. See the southernmost point in the US for photo op. Ooooooooh and the surfer beach near the airport! Enjoy your cruise!

You say you are arriving in the morning. Any respectable cruise line would not depart until you had the chance to experience the Mallory Square sunset, an absolutely must-do while in Key West. I hope that you will be there long enough.

It is a sort of mecca for street performers that really are entertaining with a backdrop of the sunset. There are some sailboats that do sunset sails, and although I love sailing, from Mallory Square you can have a beautiful sailboat in your sunset photos.

Otherwise, idnic summed it up pretty well. Simply get a moped and you can see the whole island in a short time. Then, zero in on what interests you. The Hemingway House is a likely spot for interest and photo ops. Duval Sreet is diverse and very interesting.

Go see the sunset celebration at Mallory Square. There are some really odd and awesome street performers there as well as the best sunset pic opportunities in Florida. You can check out the site for it at //www.sunsetcelebration.org/ and it will tell you more about the performers and timing of the sunset. The souvenirs that are hand crafted and are some of the best around so save some money for when you go there. :)

take lots of pictures of the chickens...there's some people who are trying to rid the island of the 20,000 plus chickens that roam the streets...

Hahaha, there was something in the Miami Herald a while back about the guy who was catching them. I think he was an ex-mayor of Key West, somewhat aged now, who was trapping them left and right, but then the city made him stop, or pissed him off or something, so he stopped again, and half the citizenry went ape. It seems the chickens are quite the menance. Which is kinda' funny, really...

Sloppy Joe's.
They will turn into blurry, low light messes as you progress and you may not remember much about what happened by the time you leave. The marina and the monument marking the Southern Most Point in the lower 48 States are OK to.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Key West. Key West is such a small island that you'll be able to see a lot in just a few hours. You can rent a moped or even a bicycle (which I did) and ride along the beautiful coast then follow it down to Duval street. Duval reminds me a little of Bourbon street in New Orleans but much cleaner and quaint. Wonderful restaurants, good shopping and great Margaritas. Then do the Duval crawl (too many margs) down to the southern pier for pics and live music. If you have time you can rent watercraft as well. I went during Halloween one year to an event called Fantasy Fest. It's something everyone should see just once. I'm so jealous. Have a wonderful time and let us know how it went.

Souther Most Point, the old Key West Cemetery, Bahama Village. Eat plenty of conch fritters and frozen key lime pie on at stick. You can also check out the conch train.
My wife and I will be there in a month!

You gotta go to "The Chicken Store" on Duval Street. They let you take great pics in there, and everything that you buy goes towards a fund to rescue, help and rehabillitate orphaned chickens of Key West. And YES...Sloppy Joes and conch fritters!

wow, you guys rock! thanks for all the tips... someone mentioned any respectable cruiseline would keep us there to see the sunset-- but not this one. we get there at 7am and leave at 2pm. but it's a free cruise my company's sending me on, so i won't complain. it just gives me reason to go back, right? i promise to post pictures. the moped's a great idea, i'll look into that!!

again, thank you! this kind of contribution is what i love about the dpchallenge community. y'all have a good night (or day, wherever you are)!
