Go up to Mojave/Ridgecrest area, just drive around, all kinds of old mining stuff, desert, Edwards AFB, the airport is where the airlines mothball their airliners that they don't have in service. There are lots of dry lakebeds you can visit, Devil's Punchbowl, the Wind Farm on the El Cajon Pass near Mojave is cool too.

If you have a truck go out and drive around on some of the dirt roads, they are all over. If you do, make sure you take lots of water and a other necessities.

Drive out to the middle of nowhere and wait until it's dark. You will really be able to see the Billions and Billions of stars and lots of other cool stuff.

Just noticed that some of your shots were in SLO, did you go to school there?

Welcome to So Cal! Have you checked out the poppies yet? Right now is supposed to be the best time for them, but I haven't been up there yet this year. Go west on Avenue I about 15 miles, and you'll see the reserve on the right. Sometimes the poppies are better across the street from the reserve, just keep your eyes open.

A really cool place is Vasquez Rocks. Head south on the 14 about a 1/2 hour to Agua Dulce. Lots of movies have been shot there, you'll probably recognize it. Here's one of my shots from there:

Red Rock Canyon is a pretty place too. Go North on the 14 past Mojave, and I think it's about 1/2 hour from there. If you have a truck, you can explore more, but it's not really needed for most of it. Went there a few years ago before I turned digital, so no pictures to share.
