Is there really a difference between this challenge cliche and the visual puns one?

Quite different. A pun is a play on words. A cliche or saying is not necessarily that. Not usually, in fact.

Question for the masses: As the voting public, would you consider an overused stereotype to be a cliche?

Main Entry: cli·ché
Variant(s): also cli·che /klE-'shA, 'klE-", kli-'/
Function: noun
Etymology: French, literally, printer's stereotype, from past participle of clicher to stereotype, of imitative origin
1 : a trite phrase or expression; also : the idea expressed by it
2 : a hackneyed theme, characterization, or situation
3 : something (as a menu item) that has become overly familiar or commonplace

Yes!

I would say the same...however, will everyone that views and votes on your "stereotype" feel the same way?? That's why I sit on the edge of the fence a lot here...What I see and what THEY see..hmmmmmm

Dang it...... I had thought of the needle in a haystack.
Guess that one is out now :-(

I thought we weren't supposed to discuss specifics anymore until AFTER the challenge?

I found an excellent site for ideas... ClicheSite.com
I would love to know which ones that those of you who are not from the United States are acquainted with since it says that most of them originated in the United States. Does that mean we should go with the ones that are listed on this site (clichesite.com) as having no country of origin??

Sorry, that one has been in my portfolio for ages and has been seen in several other threads. I though most everyone had seen it already.

How about "He's just a taco short of a combination"?
04/27/2006 06:35:56 PM · #20
I heard one that cracked me up today. A customer commenting on the previous one, who had been a VERY large lady in very tight knit pants, said it looked like "two wildcats fighting in a burlap sack."
Maybe not kind, but coming from an 86 year old it was hilarious!
(and yes, I believe my butt looks like that too, so I'm not being insensitive to larger people, cuz I AM one)
