| I rushed into post processing my image. Just tried another PP method which is so much better, blah. Will post latter version after challenge end. |

Wow....dropped like a rock to 5.3333
I'm banking on the fact that it's really early but I wonder if this challenge will score well overall...
I ran my photo across a few photographer friends of mine and I got a lot of "wows" (the good kind) so I'm honestly pretty suprised. |

Abstracts are not 'in' I suppose....and yet...it's a good design and certainly a negative, but voters probably forget that a negative of a colour photo is coloured too.

With the scores I usually get, I was hoping for a 5.5! It will be very interesting to see how all our scores change over the next couple of days. |

Sigh.
It's like waking up with a hangover, but I don't drink, you know? I go to bed all excited and giddy, then wake up and see something like "Hey Deb, you sucker, you REALLY submitted to another challenge? With a shot you THOUGHT would do well? What were you thinking??" (Personalized messages in the Update window... now there's an idea best left alone.)
I think that it may be time to turn off scores. Sigh. (And don't get me wrong - I'll gladly take a 5.3 - I just need to learn to curb my enthusiasm sometimes.)

We've all been there Melethia. In fact; I'm there almost every challenge. I always work on my submissions in panic late at night, last minute. And so what looked like a million bucks when I went to bed aint so hot when I get up.

So far what I'm getting out of this is that the voters want a photo, not a piece of art. Both of my commenters were critical of the composition - one because some detail wasn't obvious enough (s/he's wrong, but I'll grumble about subjectivity on my own) and the other because it was "too abstract" and that wasn't the intention the challenge. Really? What was the intention then? It didn't say "post something that looks like a photo" it was "works well as a negative". Not the same, buddy! Grr.
I barely made it through anything last night, but what I get see ended up scoring like so: if it looked like a boring shot converted to a negative, it scored low. If it looked like you made an effort to do something but the effect is blah, it scores mid-range. If I am impressed with the photo as a stand-alone piece of art (meaning it doesn't just look like a negative), then it scores high.

I do the same thing on every challenge. Even after I get a low score I start getting ideas for the next one. That enthusiasm is what keeps me going! |
