Can those of you that do photography for money tell me what your policy is regarding proofs and how long you will store them for your client?

Do you post them for a limited time? Offer reposting for a fee and do you tell them a set amount of time that you will keep the proofs yourself for possible future orders?

Any input would be greatly appreciated :)

Edited to add: This is pertaining primarily to Studio/Portrait proofs.

Some do, some don't.

Some people charge more up front then give the client everything, straight away, so they don't have to deal with storage or reprints fees.

6 months before destruction/ removal is common. Depends a lot on your own situation and what your customers want/ will put up with.

I'll let them know I attempt to store photos on a long term basis but no guarantee at all. After a limited amount of time, say 6 months if a client wants a pic there is an unatchive fee of $50 that will be credited against that new purchase as long as the purchase is greater than $75. Always have in your contract that there is a possibility that at the end of taking the photos for the first time none of them may be any good and the limit to your liability is payment that the client had already paid for your service and nothing more. Most clients should expect to pay extra if finding old photos are required.
