I'm thinking about relocating my website to a new place from tripod.com. Right now I'm paying $5/month for 25MB and of storage space and I'm thinking that's kind of a rip-off.

Does anybody have any recommendations?

I just learned of Clickimage.com... It's not a webhost, per say, but you can have a web page there, and they offer e-commerce solutions that are quite nice and favorable to the professional photographer.

tripod sucks. and there is no such thing as a "rip-off" unless you are forced or tricked into paying, IMO. :)

Lots of threads about this - search.

I guess it's not a rip-off, but it is not a good deal at all.

Can you post a link to your current website, or at least tell us what you want to do, so we know what to reccomend?

Just say it - Cheap. You want dirt cheap web hosting. cheap cheap cheap. See, it's not a dirty word.

...trying to remember that expression "You get what you... something something"

No, INEXPENSIVE. No one wants cheap stuff. ;)

A link to my website is in my signature. I want something inexpensive, with at the very least 50MB of storage (but preferably much more), and a domain name would be nice.

My site is hosted by dreamhost, I can't remember the rate, but I think it was fairly cheap.

Also if you have a google email address google has added a feature so that you can have a personal webpage for free. See google page creator.

Hope you find one you like!

I provide webhosting, and have been thinking about a special reduced price package for dpc members as a give back to the community. I need to speak with d/l or sc to see if they would mind me posting a link on the forums here, but in the mean time pm me and I'll let you know what I can do for you.

I think my favorite so far is Start Logic. Looks INEXPENSIVE, and they seem to pride themselves on support. What do you think?

I'd google any host you're looking at and read user reviews.

IX WebhostingGood stuff, good price, check'em out. I have my website and my business site hosted through them.

P.S. My personal site sucks at the moment so please don't let that influence your decision! ;-)

I moved to Siteground a while ago. Good so far, lots of storage - 12Gb, lots of easy script installs (3-4 different photo galleries, message boards, content mgt stuff, wordpress), PHP5 e.t.c. for < $6/month. I think you get a free domain name on the first year if you register thru them (not sure as I already had the domain).

Check out 1&1 here. They're really cheap (5GB for $2.99/month). Plus it's fast and you have a bunch of statistics and stuff you can track on all your webpages. It was recommended to me by the guy who is head of networking for Alienware...for once he seems to have been right :)

I have used //www.yrhost.com for the last 2 years, and been very satisfied. Reasonable prices, and very little downtime. Most of the difficulties have been on my end.

Powweb is who I use for my piddly little site I have. I've only had them about 1 1/2 years, but my friend who recommended me to them has been with them for over 8 years with no problems. They offer 20 gigs of space, 400 gigs transfer a month, 650 emails, yada yada yada for $7.77 a month. I don't use a fraction of all that stuff, but it's still pretty cheap.

I feel so left out. I don't have a web page. Or "myspace" or whatever that thing is. Or pictures on any other web-based site other than here.

But hey, I had a Commodore 64 before most of you were born...does that count??

WHAT?!? How do you share your super important personal information with the world? How will anyone know of your drunken escapades or what you ate for dinner last night or which Who's The Boss character you are? Come on woman!

I am going to have to agree with dacrazyrn. I have been developing web sites for years now. I am a professor of Web design and development at a university in arizona and I recommend 1and1 to all my students. I use them myself too.

Uhhh.... I don't drink, I rarely eat dinner, and "Who's the Boss"??? That was before most of you were born, too, wasn't it? (I have a VERY vague recollection of something titled that. TV show, right?)

I need a website. Wonder if I host my own little site if my provider will get irritated... ;)
