JayWalk,

You are correct, but it usually works out just perfect and beyond a few votes at a time you're guessing at individual votes anyway. In my example above, had I gone up by 13.5 points instead of 13.0, I would have known that somebody changed their vote.

I just shifted off my score option in preferences. This one is way lower than I expected - even had 2 bumps down. I know there arent too many votes in yet, but I am going to try this one out as a surprise ending - hopefully I will be pleased. Cold turkey on the update button. Anyone else done this?

BeeCee,

It's just a weighted average. I take my previous score and multiply by number of votes (Ex. 4.2381 score x 42 votes = 178.0 points). I do the same after I update (Ex. 4.3409 x 44 votes = 191.0 points). I then take the difference in points (191.0 - 178.0 = 13.0 points) and divide by number of votes (13.0 / 2) = 6.5 average vote. Since I know it was two votes, it had to be a 6 and 7 vote. If there are many votes between updates, it can be more difficult to figure out what the individual votes were, but you can always get the average.

Ken

That's about what I said...finger on the button so able to update often enough to only have a couple or three votes to figure out :) I do the same but, being only a registered user and only able to update hourly at the most, I rarely get to see what individual scores are. Hmmm... another good reason to start begging around for some cash, eh?

I started in the high 6's, and now nearly 24 hours later moved down to the mid 5's. Some of my comments say it doesn't look old. I am so disappointed, as the main subject photographed is very very old, and everyone someone else said, what a great shot this should be a print. I am very confussed. Can someone please explain.....

I stuffed up "BIG", and put this above thread in the "New" instead of here in the "Old".....Arn't I a dumbo.....

Rising, but with 400 entries, I'm probably at 30th right now.

Mine was accused of being "a stretch for the challenge"! Which is funny because the subject is pretty old!!!

Just got hit with one of those stingers. Score dropped 0.10 in 3 votes. But I'm still alive. Bring it on, sucka!
04/19/2006 09:20:35 PM · #93

When I left work last night I had a real spring in my step - 6.7 after 20 votes - what a great score.

But when I turned on the computer today I almost sprayed coffee all over the screen - down to 5.2273 after 44 votes.

That means that the 24 people who voted while I was asleep thought my photo was worth 4.

All this after braging that I was beating the other Doctor.

I was very happy earlier at 7.14, but now... not as happy. :-(

there seems to be a serious trend in the voting, we all know and talk about it, but no one wants to admit it. the comments have stopped too. hmmm. what could it be...??? is there somthing going on that i'm not aware of? (cough) do i need to start voting low too? it's difficult to maintain a fair voting practice when you know your image is worth more then it gets for a score. because i lack the time and interest in some of the reindeer games going on around here (cough) and i'm newbie in the dpc world i feel like the reason i began this is gone. i mean the fake ribbons are great though i can't speak from experience, but mostly i just wanted constructive criticism and to learn something from this and now with sh!tty scores and no comments the frustration has taken over. peace

I would think that this would end up being a top ten score. Most certainly it will continue to go up in general, not counting the peaks and valleys.

And its a good contest, but I dont know if its great one. I think a mid 6 will do real well.
04/19/2006 11:12:54 PM · #97
Wonder if maybe it should be setup so you can't vote on a challange you entered into. You can only vote into challanges you did not submit to. It would be nice because people wont try to vote others down to make there photo higher. I truly think people do this, and that would be the only way IMO to gaurentee unbiased voting.

Just a thought

Score, sittin' at a even 5...m'eh.
But what really counts, I got a good comment, and my shot was added as a favorite! To me at least, those two combined are more exciting than a high score.

Actually with the low scoring like this, it may one of the ribbon; if not at least top 5.
