Just like the title suggests.

Edgar Allen Poe was more than just an author of horror (The Pit and the Pendulum, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Oblong Box) he also wrote detective stories (The Murders in the Rue Morgue, The Purloined Letter), poems (Alone,An Enigma,Annabel Lee,The Conqueror Worm,The Happiest Day, The Happiest Hour) and Articles (Criticism,The Daguerreotype,Marginalia) and Long Tales (The Gold-Bug, The Narrative Of Arthur Gordon Pym Of Nantucket) and finally Short Stories (The Balloon-Hoax,The Devil In The Belfry,The Landscape Garden,Morning On The Wissahiccon).

He wrote many, many other things. Too many to mention here.

So...

Find something from E.A.Poe that you like, take your camera, and your best editing style, and come up with an interpretation of one of his writings within a single frame. Remember, lighting, editing, and alot of forethought is a must.

Great challenge topic; I like being asked to interpret the verbal with my camera. Here's some Poe:

From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone...

Great one Robert... I find it reminds me of the old adage which I believe reads as follows:
"There is no lonelier feeling than being alone in a crowd".

Thanks for sharing.

I found this image would reflect the general mood of Poe's work quite well:

I thought the challenge would be for us to kill someone and then take a photo that would cause the jury to give us the death penalty. This is probably better.

I dunno,...it is a nice pix, but, in this challenge I think even greater forethought is needed.

Interesting someone should bring up Poe. While I was babysitting my nephews a week ago, Mr. Poe came up somehow (probably something my mother said) and I ended up reading "The Raven" to the nine year old. He seemed to enjoy it.

This idea holds some promise and challenges. I would love to see this as a challenge.

I love this idea. :) Read a lot of Poe as a teenager. Could be fun to go back and interpret some of his stuff in imagery...

I used to work at Church Hospital in Baltimore (they have since torn it down). Their claim to fame? Poe died there. And they let you know it. There was a plaque on the wall where the room had been where he died. Strange.

I think a Poe challenge would be very cool. I could find a beetle and some gold spray paint and do a macro shot of "The Gold Bug".

Interesting challenge topic idea.

Poe was a great genius in his understanding of the darker side of the human psyche. That is probably why I like him so much. :)

I worked in Baltimore for several months and, unbeknownst to me, I drove by his tombstone next to a street I drove every day. It is in a tiny graveyard surrounding a small church near downtown. I later paid homage to him visiting his burial site. That was before I had a digital camera.

It seems strangely appropriate to me that one clear and sunny Saturday afternoon when I went to go see his historic homesite in Baltimore that the neighborhood was so scary I just drove by and went back to my hotel. Baltimore is a nice town if you limit your travels to the inner harbor. It is pretty scary around downtown everywhere else. Somehow I think Poe likes it that way. ;)

I think it's a cool idea.

Here's a shot of Poe's basement ;)
