I noticed that almost every winning entry currently shown has a border. Just coincidence or the new rage?

There are only 3 more with borders than without, 6 vs. 9. Just a coincidence methinks!

After I made a couple of entries using borders and got comments like "I don't like borders" I read someone's comment about how to score on DPC and they said "don't use borders". Now these results just show it doesn't really matter if the photo is strong enough. Mind you, neither does DNMC :)

my count is 12 to 3, and the ones without a border have black backrounds.

The *TYPE* of border is also extremely important and significant.

If you go with something too large, too gaudy, too different, that doesn't complement your color or look of the photo, or anything of that nature, your border will hurt you and fail.

The borders that are accepted are small, simple, fit the photo, and help to enhance it.

One of the things we might see if we go to 720px sizes are larger borders. We'll have to see how *that* works out :) But I think we will see *more* borders for sure, as people won't have to compromise with making a 640px shot smaller to put a 20px border on it.

Are you aware that DPC draws a 1-pixel black border on all submissions? You just can't see it when the image is dark. This may account for the disagreement in counting with Konador...

This image, for example, was submitted with a 1-pixel black and 5-pixel white border; the site added the outer, black line and it's very obvious on this shot. I did plan for it, incidentally :-)

Nobody liked this border. It's a shame no one else did :)

This is a prime example of what NOT to do. It borders on the ridiculous.

Good example of a good use of borders. Too often they look gimmicky, but the proportions here are more conservative than most use.

I like it :) Fit's the mood and time of the image, like something found hanging in every grandma's front room.
